Picking up a new car (Tesla Model 3) next week and I’d like to take it for an extended drive the following weekend. Can anyone suggest a route starting in South Leeds taking in some good driving roads, with nice views and ideally a cafe somewhere along the route for an obligatory bacon buttie and brew?

I was thinking either Pennines (Snake Pass) or North Yorkshire (e.g. Harrogate - Pateley Bridge - Grassington - Otley).

When out on the bike, I really like the Ripley, Ripon, Masham, Healey, Lofthouse, Pateley Bridge, Summerbridge Route.
Some excellent views, although I can’t help on the butty front I’m afraid!
Enjoy, and pics please!

I’m thinking of something like this - a quick blast North up the A1, pull off at Ripon then West towards Grassington on fast A roads before a winding and hilly route back via Ilkley and Otley.

a cross pennines zig zag?

head down to Huddersfield and you have the A62 accross to Manchester
A670 down to uppermill
A635 back over Green moor to Holmfirth, stop off at the carding shed and head down to flouch A616 or take a more scenic route via dunford bridge
A628 Woodhead pass over to tintwistle, and down to glossop
A57 Snake pass back over from Tintwistle towards Sheffield.
Once you pass ladybower take the left onto mortimer road, follow that all the way to midhopestones. from there if you turn right you'll get to tankersley and find a Tesla supercharger at Tankersley manor before the M1 home.

It’s worth googling the route that the Tour de France took, that’s a nice route but perhaps more ‘picturesque’ than ‘driving’. Does include the Buttertubs though.

The Blakey Ridge was looking good this morning. More interesting than the B1257 Stokesley to Helmsley road.

Ingleborough to Hawes is a good drive when quiet with some amazing views.

Certainly is, despite being a bit ‘caravany’ during summer. Hopefully not an issue now.

I prefer to start at Hawes (I’m east on the 684 from it).

A great drive is Hawes, viaduct, Ingleton, A65 to Settle for lunch, and back to the viaduct via Horton-in Ribblesdale, then back up the way you came to Hawes.

Or, stay on the A65 a little longer to Skipton, then north to Grassington then Pately bridge. That road is a belter. Then Masham via Lofthouse and on to Leyburn and back to Hawes.

Fab.

I'd prefer not to drive any of the suggested routes in one of those Tesla Skips
