I think this was a really good concept, but I’m not entirely sure the execution has been perfect. To be fair the pandemic has made things exceedingly difficult for them.
Our club was asked to help and we are running a demonstration Autotest in one of the fields, plus a stand with a few clubman competition cars. The number of restrictions which were applied by MSUK have probably made this something of a damp squib though.
I suspect the same level of restrictions will have adversely affected the actual Hillclimb too.
Whilst I did want to attend and would love to have taken a car up, I’m moving house this weekend so it was a non starter, maybe next year, I should have an eligible car to enter too by then.

I wonder how close they got to the hoped for visitor numbers, the photos I’ve seen on social media, don’t appear to be showing large groups, let alone crowds.
In fairness, not all the restrictions can be put at the foot of MSUK. The council has been heavily involved too.

Think they were limited to 4000 per day. Car park seemed full, and good sized queues at all the food outlets.

True but the operational restrictions MSUK put on the Autotest demonstration were what I was referring too. A mixture of Covid over cautiousness and Over zealous protection for any speccyys that might have found them at the far end of the field.
The lawn mower races, meanwhile could do what they wanted it seemed.

Did you have any part in trying to get this event up and running (not just your Autotest)?

I ask because I don't think people understand the hoops people had to go through to get this event up and running.

As far as I am aware MSUK did not put any additional criteria for this event. That came from the council. Remember all the protocols had to be agreed upon
many months earlier, even then it didn't stop the Council from insisting on Covid testing (Nothing to do with MSUK) in the week leading up to the event.

No just the Autotest demo, as far as I know the restrictions we had came direct from Colnbrook, or is it Bicester now.

I don’t doubt there were a great many hoops.

...he whole thing is a complete shambles as far as we are concerned, he hasn't got any details of passes etc, the parking is over a mile away from the event site, ...very narrow roads which I know very well, if 4000 cars turn up it will be a log jam....Hope I'm wrong.
Couldnt be more wrong, based on our experience yesterday!. Signage was spot on, found all the details we needed on the website, route in was totallt clear and sensible (did the 'they are going to the show' game on the way as you spot nice cars heading in your direction!), straight into car park, loads of marshalls and stewards, short walk straight into the event, no queuing at ticket barrier, absolute doddle. They got it spot on!?

Well I enjoyed that. Like a big village fete with cars
Yep, thats basically we we thought too. I enjoyed it - took the full family and met up with some non-petrolhead friends. It was pegged as being a bit more family friendly, I'd never drag them all the Harewood or Croft for instance.

There was enough 'stuff' going on to keep them interested, and actually I didnt really see any of the Hillclimbing or competition cars at all other than their roof going past a stone wall. This definitely need to be looked at, my lad was really dissapointed there was no way for him to actually see the cars. Even a big pile of hay bales would have been great!

It felt like they had spread the attractions out further than you would expect for an event of XXXX number of visitors, which was sensible I think. The layout was a bit thrown together though!

From a competitors point of view the weekend was very enjoyable.
If it had rained it would have been a completely different story though as I suspect the paddock would have turned into a quagmire very quickly.
Talking to more seasoned hill climbers , they weren’t very happy with the course saying it was difficult to get a rhythm, I had nothing to draw a comparison with so couldn’t offer an opinion other than it scared the hell out of me!

Looked good that, the crowds seemed to get a decent view.

I was there with the classic minis on display, we did have a lot of last minute drop outs and i think the general uncertain nature of things at the moment put exhibitors off from committing in advance.
Overall i enjoyed it, there was a lot of walking involved if you wanted to see everything and some pinch points that slowed access down. Viewing of the climb was ok, by the start and from the top side of the finish being the best / only places. wandering round the paddock was fine although apparently it wasnt allowed! But then the marshalls never checked our wristbands or covid tests either..
It was very busy sat and sunday, friday was a wash out apparently.? we were told the 4000 limit wasnt being counted, sensibly, as sure there was more than that wandering about.
Food was as expected expensive but what we had was good, better than some shows we've been to anyway.
Signage was poor for the trade entrance (ie there wasnt one) so thankfully the guys that dropped cars off friday were able to provide maps and instructions for us as we got nothing from the organizers apart from the requirement to be there 7.30 each day.
We left just after lunch Sunday, even though we werent supposed to, but we were cold, tired and had a decent trip back to cumbria to do.
