All of that played a part in the cancellation of what was a fantastic supercar event at the Jenny Wren inn. Fond memories of being a passenger in a F40 being piloted at good pace on countryside roads and the bonkers GT2 passenger ride that resulted in us diving down a side lane to evade the old bill
I don't have many dreams but going out in an F40 is one of them, you lucky bugger!

Ditto, it's almost a lifelong dream for me. I was six when they were launched and I've wanted to get in one ever since!

I was a little older, it was chassis 78122 at the 1988 Birmingham Motor Show for me - Nick Mason's car that he let them borrow to put on display because they didn't have a spare of their own biglaugh

Since then it's been posters, models and always choosing the F40 over the 959 in "The Duel: Test Drive II" and any other motoring game with one in and while I've been in the company of them a few times I've never actually sat in one, static or moving, as prices rocketed I just decided it was never to be but maybe I'll get lucky one day.

That said just some car-based excitement might be nice, I've been in a bit of a motoring wilderness due to my daft head keeping me inside and crap cars making me embarrassed to go to meets even if I was capable of stepping outside, hopefully things will change in both departments.

I can’t help sorting your head out, other than to just urge you to get out there.

As for a recent stable of un-PH cars, I’m in the same club I’m afraid, (although my Kangoo Van RS197 should be quite mental if I ever get the time to finish it, but it will still just be a 20 year old Van).

If the mediocracy of your current fleet is leaving you embarrassed, get yourself down to The Festival of the Unexceptional this summer. I went last year and is was a really pleasant day out.

I believe you're very local to me TTW - you're welcome to to borrow the Zed if you wanted to participate in a run out in the future (subject to the insurance blah blah ). Genuine offer.

Also a big yes to karting idea!

I’m the same these days with my crap shed Saab. The days of nice cars are taking a hiatus.

TeamSport in Leeds have a decent track. Went a few times when it was PPIK. Happy to help organise a PH day there

I'd be up for karting once things are a bit calmer my end, was a miracle I could host the last raid, things are getting better from the end of this month and I'll be back to normal back end of summer and can start enjoying life again. I think we should definitely try to get some regular stuff happening especially over autumn/winter.

Tapeworm, if you ever need a blast out in something random (random because God knows what will be working at that moment) with no awkward conversation just choose the album and the fast food stop, drop me a message.

Very nostalgic thread.
It does seem something happened to take the fun out of group drives. Maybe it was when then got popular.
I definitely had an issue a few times with the group separating out and there being pressure to catch up. Ok on the open roads but not great going through villages.

Well the roads are still there and are just as good!

I’m up for organising a small early Dales drivers run from the Leeds area but I can’t set a date yet. It’ll be July or August and I think I’d limit it to 7 or 8 cars max? I’d certainly not be precious about what model cars turn up!

I have a map for a previous Leeds tunnel run (early doors making noise in all the Leeds city centre tunnels - they’re generally not in residential areas). Happy to pass that on if someone else wants to organise.

This is all sounding really promising. I'm based in South Leeds so could join the Dales run if I'm not otherwise engaged.

Bless you guys, I'm a bit overwhelmed here - thanks to all of you.

I'll work on my issues and hopefully can join you for some fun in the future.

I'm up for karting. Whichever kind of session we can make happen is fine with me.

I'd love to be on the shortlist if you do a run from Leeds.

Tbh i'd be happy if a bunch of likeminded folk just wanted to meet up at The Motorist (or wherever) on a particular date smile

Karting…..

Tockwith Airfield, just off the A1 near Wetherby, using petrol biz-Le Mans karts, (whatever they are?).

15 min qualifying & 45 minutes race, (consisting of two man teams sharing the driving) = 93 per team ( 46.50 per person). Minimum of 8 teams required, (16 drivers).

30 min qualifying & 90 minute race, (consisting of three man teams) = 135 ( 45 per person). Minimum of ten teams required, (30 drivers).

http://www.uk-go-karting.com/tracks/yorkshire/tock...

They do Sunday sessions as well, which is the only day I’d be able to make.

Let’s put aside which specific Sunday for now and just see if we can get the numbers?

Copy & paste with your name below if you’re genuinely interested please?

I think start a new thread for karting - I bet a lot of members are not reading this thread because they don’t want to do a dawn run, but they might want to go karting

Upon reflection, it was a nobhead move to hijack this thread in such a way.

My apologies.

On the contrary, it's a great idea! I just thought you might not be reaching the full audience.
