Ever since we started going back there the Triton requested that (if we wanted to eat) we book beforehand so that they can manage numbers/staffing etc. As I'm sure you're well aware, many places operate very differently now to how they did a couple of years ago.
If you just wanted to go along, sit outside and have a beer/chat then that wouldn't present any issues for them at all. If they still have the Marquee up you could probably go and sit in there if the weather was bad.
Just to give some "real world" context ...the local TVR group are going to the Triton in a fortnights time and, because they are planning on eating, they have had to pay a deposit, confirm numbers and even pre-order the food !
