FUBAR News on Facebook did an April Fool's joke around that date, could well be what was overheard?
Hope that's it! I unsubscribed from Fubar a while ago as the negative uninformed comments were affecting my happiness! Makes NP&E on here seem positively convivial!Jambo85 said:
Goval to Blackdog open this morning! Anyone driven it yet? Looked basically empty when I crossed it on the A947 around 7:15 this morning.
I'll give it a spin this afternoon.
Yup, just checked it out, there are no cameras or speed signs so you can go as fast as you like I'll give it a spin this afternoon.
2mins 30 seconds from Goval to blackdog.

That's fairly shifting Shuvi, though it didn't take very long at 70ish either!
It's a great bit of road, fantastic views from parts of it, and some real thought seems to have gone into landscaping, putting up drystone dykes, planting a lot of trees and wildflower mixes in the verges. Will be a real credit to the area when complete. Bravo to those involved.
Also drove the new bit of dual carriageway up to Tipperty and it'll be spot on too when finished.
Anyone heard anything about what is next?
PS the NSL signs seemed to be up when I was on it and the fuzz were lapping it in an X5

I stayed (just) below the ton and had the road completely to myself. I started at the goval end and cruised to Black dog checking for cameras etc and then did the 'speed run' on the way back PS the NSL signs seemed to be up when I was on it and the fuzz were lapping it in an X5
I'm not very familiar with the upper stretch of the A9 but on the A90, the AWPR makes it very quick for the Stonehaven to A96 at the Aberdeen Airport part of your journey but the rest will still be quite poor. Dundee is a significant bottleneck, and the A96 North of Aberdeen will remain a catastrophuck until it is dualled to Inverness (going to happen I believe) and all/most of the roundabouts on the existing dual section removed.
8bit the proper new bit is from Blackdog to Goval - it is fully open with both lanes in both directions, 70 mph, lovely. Details and map here: https://www.transport.gov.scot/progress-update/par...
North of Blackdog to Ellon is a disaster at the moment I agree, but you can see the potential!

catastrophuck Perfect description.
According to the SG's website the A96 is expected to be dualled by 2030
Given that the A9 dualling has a completion date of 2025 (which it hasn't a hope in hell of meeting) and is mostly through open country with far fewer interchanges/junctions, I don't believe I will ever see the A96 fully dualled - as will none of the policitians who make campaign pledges.

They must have used some pretty heavy bikes to lend out to people riding up and down the AWPR at the Go North East event... - the damage from them was so bad the tarmac had to be ripped up and replaced!

Or would they just be stalling for time!

Unbelievable! Sounds like whatever is needing done is pretty minimal though, in contrast to this which sounds like it could take a long time indeed:

If they open Stonehaven to Craibstone without Craibstone to Parkhill, the affect on Dyce at rush hour could be interesting. A bit like the current scenario at Parkhill in the mornings, yesterday around 8 there looked to be a fair queue back from the Parkhill exit of the AWPR.
What is "late Autumn"... late November?
Anyway - it is still a fantastic project, and it really is tantalisingly close to being ready.

I noted that recently the only webcam remaining on the official page for the AWPR was the one at the new Don crossing. Just checked just now and the page has been taken down completely. Seemed to me that this was the only bit as yet incomplete. Surely we must be just about done now.
Can't help but think they could have avoided a lot of public frustration just by a little better communication...
