Ocht, driving to work in Westhill this AM, and passing Kingswells, there's a big sign for roadworks starting 25th July for 9 months, and wondered if it was some form of bypass-related works.. Alas, I think its something unrelated (and of course it hasn't got approval, yet..)

spotted that myself and had a wee google, apparently theres a new business park going in the westhill side of the park and ride so the roadworks are for that.

Another heap of traffic added to that area then!

More great planning by the f-wit council, the A944 is very congested so they build another business park on 'Green Belt' land next to the P&R and just to add to the mix they consent to more units next to the airport and the shire agreed to Subsea city in Westhill with the AWPR years away.
On one hand we hear the council is considering a U turn on the third Don crossing to get Aberdeen moving and the next they are just adding to the issue by allowing these new developments.
I am all for progress and recognise the need to create infrastructure to support the O&G industry but surely the development of existing industrial areas and the redevelopment of the many abandoned sites would be a more logical move until the AWPR becomes a reality, admittedly traffic will always be an issue until the AWPR is completed but I sometimes wonder and suggest that consent to these developments are a cash generating exercise for the councils rather than a well thought out strategy to benefit the companies and communities.

FINALLY

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-o...

Wonder if Mr Walton can be sued now for disruption, loss of business etc. due to lack of the bypass?

Now its finally passed all the hurdles any idea what the timescales are for construction? Will certain parts be worked on and opened earlier than others or will it all have to be completed and opened in one go? Just wondering how quickly we are likely to see some much needed improvement in the Aberdeen traffic.

They haven't even started the tendering process yet, as far as I know.

I thought it was all tendered and ready to go as soon as this decision was through. I hope you're wrong.

Good news! BBC is quoting spring 2018 for completion. A lot of the prep work as been done, moving key buildings and services, deforestation etc

I really hope they do it properly and use flyovers at all the main junctions rather than roundabouts. I assume budget won't allow it, but the Buckburn to Inverurie road is terrible for that.

You're joking, it will be cheap and (not so) cheerful in it's construction!

About time, but 8 years to lay a bit of tarmac? Lend me a steamroller and me and a few mates will have the thing built on a quiet weekend...

Call me negative, but this has more than a whiff of the Edinburgh tram fiasco about it already.

Would Spring 2018 not be less than 6 years not 8.

Oops, bit of a brain fart smile

Still, I wonder what odds William Hill would give on this being built on time and to budget? wink

They wouldn't give you odds because that is never going to happen!

Would be an absolute miracle and as someone posted above, smells like the tram fiasco already.

The budget was set in what? 2004 or something. So no, it wont cost £400M and the original budget did not take account of the delay costs either obviously.

Great news, a city the size of Aberdeen and importance to the UK should have had this long ago.

The M74 link came in on time and on budget, albeit 40 years after it ought to have been built. Pick the right contractor and there's a good chance.
