Coupled with the dual carriageway between Tipperty and Baldmedie it should make things better. I seriously hope it will reduce congestion on roads such as Market Street and Holburn Street!

Thread resurrection! AWPR doesn't seem to have been given a thread since this one and it's nearly ready! The gaps in the bridge over the Don are closing steadily and signs are going up and tarmac is going down.

Don't know about everyone else but I'm excited about it. Finishing work in Dyce of a Friday afternoon knowing that I can be passing Stonehaven in 25 mins(?), that's the stuff dreams are made of surely. And the traffic removed from Anderson Drive and all around the beach and harbour areas will be incredible.

I suppose the A90 South of Aberdeen will be more congested and maybe any time saved queuing through Aberdeen will then be spent at Dundee and Perth but never mind...

Has anyone got any recent info on the likely completion date? I don't expect the Carillion debacle will have helped.

Are they still talking winter 2017-18 completion? I know winter often lasts well into June here but not sure they can pull that one!

Sections to be open in April / May this year. my commute is Inverurie to Kingswells so not too bad. not a fan of the dyce roundabout; should be a flyover with slip roads. certainly heading south of Aberdeen will be much quicker.

I am unconvinced that the AWPR will make a huge difference to traffic through town. Much of the traffic is now going all the way through from north to south or vice versa, but rather from say Dyce to the docks, or Portlethen to Bridge of Don. The bypass is so far west and would add miles to these journeys. Sure, going all the way from Dyce to the south is going to be great, but that's about all.
However, I have an open mind and happy to be proven wrong when it opens.

If you were going from Dundee to Ellon, will the AWPR be quicker? I used to do a similar journey years ago, and going past the harbour was quicker than Anderson Drive

Until I read your last sentence I thought you might be a a taxi driver biggrin

The specific case of Dyce to the harbour I agree nothing will change but your other example of Portlethen to BoD I think you'd have to be certifiably bonkers to go through town once the new road is open. It would add miles yes, but miles at a constant 70 mph without roundabouts every 500 ft a la A96 aren't an issue.

An interesting slide with the outcome of what I hope was a fairly scientific study here:

https://consultation.aberdeencity.gov.uk/planning/...

Also seems to show that the AWPR will be called the A90 and what we currently know as the A90 inside the AWPR will become the A92.

We'll soon see I suppose!

Hell yes - massively. You’d be turning off at Stonehaven and presumably zero traffic lights from there until Ellon!

Biggest benefit for me will be the removal of lorries from the country roads around Aberdeen. No more dribbling along at 35mph in a huge queue.

I'm glad I was able to convince you I'm not a cabbie, and certainly not that grumpy!
I work in Dyce though and know for a fact that the truckers based here seem to use the shortest possible route between two points, commonly using the most unsuitable country B roads and rat runs. I just can't see them taking a 15 mile detour to use a nicer road.
Anyway, we'll soon find out.

I'm glad this thread has been resurrected. I don't think I've been so eagerly anticipating the opening of a new road. I was recently relocated back to Aberdeen and now have to endure a pokey wee flat while I work then drive back to Perth for my days off. I'm seriously considering commuting this once the bypass is open. Perth to Dyce daily, am I mad?

Yes you are. That’s got to be a near 200 mile per day commute!

I doubt it very much. The new Dee bridge was completed over 6 months ago and the shots on Fubar show there's still a lot of work to be done to complete that section. The crossing over the Don still has the bridge "legs" with about 20 - 40m gaps between them and the banks of the river. At the current rate of progress, it will be months before these join up without all the work needed to finish it ready for use...

I reckon it will be at least late summer before it's fully finished, though I can see them perhaps opening the section through to Kingswell or even Dyce first.

By my calculation, about 185 miles. The bypass will cut out 7 miles each way and I go home via Coupar Angus on the A94.

Tried the reopened stretch of the B977 today which is associated with the AWPR. Gives a cracking view of the Don Bridge - the gaps in it are really not that big now!
