We have had monthly get togethers in the past few years on a Wednesday night.

No one night will ever suit everyone. Some nights may be generally unsuitable, eg Saturday as some of you may have a normal social life thing!

Wednesday has been thought to be unsuitable as life changing football (the game with the round ball) games are on.

Looking for ideas of Days? Times? Places?

We may need to have a winter and summer venue/day etc??

Whilst my idea of running things is to be dictatorial, ( Mussollini didn't get everything wrong) feedback to improve our enjoyment of cars and car related things is always welcome.

Just a reminder: THESE MEETINGS ARE OPEN TO EVERYONE, NO MATTER WHAT CAR YOU HAVE OR EVEN IF YOU DON'T YET HAVE ONE! IF YOU ARE A PETROLHEAD, YOUR WELCOME!

Ok, well I'll kick off as someone who has never come to a meet but has been on PH for years. I've been intending on coming along for a few months now but something has cropped up each month this year!

Is there a reason for choosing the Dakota or Blythswood in particular, do most of the regular attendees live/work in the City Centre or South East of Glasgow? I live in Stepps and work in the City Centre so both venues actually suit me, I tend to have evening appts through work which is the main reason I've not made it personally.

What is the usual format, do you have drinks, food, does everyone bring their car and have a look over them before/during/after?

Not too fussed about which night although couldn't make Thursdays.

The only place I've thought of was here: http://www.sherbrooke.co.uk/

Mainly because we used to live round the corner but it's got a car park, bar and pretty easy to get too.

For me the problem with the Blythswood (particularly in the summer) is the parking and not really being able to have a nosey at folks cars etc.

What I was trying to get across is that as a meeting place for cars the Blythswood is hopeless. As a winter-time meeting place for car mad people, it's excellent(albeit a tad pricey at £22 per burger ).

Is there somewhere that we could try even slightly out of town which would fulfill our tyrekicking/drool over parking requirement .

+1 for trying Thursday (especially if groak's expressed interest turns into confirmed pleasure )
I come in from Falkirk each month so it's not a question of distance but suitability of location that is paramount(taking factors such as drinks, food, etc into account also). I could just as easily attend the Edinlush but chose the Glasgow side(or should that be darkside lol) as the opportunity to see some stunning cars swung it for me. I believe that our East coast bretheren have a predominantly social evening away from their cars{no disrespect and forgive me if I'm wrong).
The Tinderbox meets were great due to availability of cake, a major weakness of the two Dons, but parking was meh at best! There has to be somewhere that fits the bill...................

idea Perhaps we need to open our own Ace Cafe type venue. Anyone got some dosh? biggrin

Well as a Bothwellian I'm good with the Dakota as it's 5 minutes away. And the parking arrangements have all the space anyone could want. Thursday would definitely suit me better as I'm tied up on Wednesdays.

As a west coastie, I'm quite jealous of the Edinlush!

Although the west coast ended up organising it (FFS) the Christmas PH Curry in Edinbugger was a craic filled night.

Although fluff on cobbles is hard work!

I've just got back from the Glasgow Porsche Centre 981 launch party which had cars (Carrera GT etc) a bar and a good few PH Boys, JC, celticstevie, monthefish, lawsome, lins, stup and there were probably more.... so maybe there is as yet untapped potential on the west side?

I've been talking about this for some time. There are a lot of pubs up for sale. Definitely something i wish to own in a few years time. Show lots of motorsport, good food, live music, big car park and a garage/storage area out the back.

Anywhos, i digress. Wed nights are not great for me anymore. Not impossible but would be up for moving to another night if it's more suited. Tue or Thu are fine with me.

I was never a big fan of the Dakota inside but it's location is good/quiet.

I did suggest the Popinjay as it's got a decent carpark but the cars are parked out of our sight while inside.

At the risk of being hailed a ned laugh The pub at the raith interchange does have a big car park, is easy to get to and is decently priced. You can sit next to the window too to keep an eye on the cars if needed.

I spent quite a bit of time reasearching the possibility of opening an ACE type cafe and went to the one on London to get some info

Problem is where? Was chatting to Carlo McCridnle on Sunday about that issue. Problem is the business needs to survive without car clubs most of the time and have passing trade.

If was west then wouldn't attract people from East or Aberdeen etc

The ACE in london is just of the North circualar. Hadn't reaslied i had driven by it hundreds of times going to my sisters house in Ealing.

Wonder if people have views as is something I am keen to do!

The pub at the Raith is a good idea. Car park can get very busy though. May be worth a try?

Paul.

Newhouse?

Or perhaps the Red Deer at Cumbernauld? Easy for access and loads of parking.

Don't know if this was actually answered in the other thread but are we actually banned from Dakota? I thought they said we could go back? Only thing with Dakota is that being stuck in a meeting room is a bit st.

Only other real options are places like duck bay marina, good car park, nice setting but quite a bit out of town, infact somewhere like duck bay would be awesome during the summer months, a wee drink by the loch and a look around the cars, maybe even a wee mini run.

Duck bay sounds promising for a change?

Try it once and see how people react, also changing to thursday may help numbers for those who like to watch men fall over and chase a ball for a while..

Hi
I too need to come along and say hi smile

I used to meet at the sherbrooke with the tvr car club and we found parking was limited, They also hold lots of venue's, wedding ect even through out the week. A lovely place non the less but not ideal for large numbers with cars as we found out.

Cheers Scotty
