And the undertaker put the nameplate on his coffin squint in honour of all the AC lop-sided number plates.

All the cars in the funeral convoy had the yellow Arnold Clark sticker on the back window, even the hearse. Funny thing is there was a zoomed in picture in the paper and they actually true to form did put the sticker on very squinty.

I have no idea mate, just found out because the approved plans are on south ayrshire councils planning portal. Id imagine Galloway Avenue is being sold for flats most likely.

Any ideas whats going on at Border Cars? they are refurbing part of the showroom or have built another bit onto the showroom which used to be the Chevrolet part and was just a roof with pillars. beside the Mazda showroom.

Just had a look at the SAC site , seen this:

"1. Site Description:

The application site is located at the junction of Heathfield Road/ Wheatpark Road, Ayr. The site comprises a triangular parcel of land which is sited to the north of a buffer/ landscape strip along Heathfield Road, and which is bound by the Ayr to Mossblown railway line to the north, and by Wheatpark Road to the south-east. The application site extends to approximately 1.6 ha. The site is generally flat and is highly visible within the context of the locality, this is partly due to the topography of the surrounding landscape which generally rises to the west, and also its location on a main arterial route to and from Ayr and Prestwick. The eastern portion of the site is currently in use as a temporary car park for the adjacent car sales premises.

The site is located in a recognised commercial area in Ayr and Prestwick and therefore there are other commercial properties in the locality. In particular, the site is located in close proximity to other car showrooms."

So looks like it is where I though - Next to Ingrams.

Not sure about Border, it has been 20 years since I have been employed directly in the Trade in Ayrshire - Maybe just a tidy up of sorts? To be honest that full site could do with redevelopment now - It will be the poor companion to JLR accross the road.

Looks like it is being built on a plot of land that AC has been using as a compound for a few years now.

Also Evans Halshaw Car Store now at the old Lexus site on Kennedy St. The site had not been used as a motor retail premises for a while although I know a certain major dealer had taken a look at it before EH.

I'm just wondering if maybe Border Cars are taking on Alfa Romeo franchise now that they've taken on Jeep in Ayr which Arnold used to run from Galloway Ave until recently, because I'm told the plan is for all Jeep dealers to have Alfa too as a dual franchise.

That's a pretty good guess. In Aberdeen you have Arnold Clark Fiat, Jeep and Alfa all in one showroom. Used to be Fiat and Kia but Kia have their own new showroom now.

I knew Kia had moved to the former Ford commercials dealership on Hillview Road but I thought the other dealership was still just Fiat, Jeep and Abarth at the moment with Alfa possibly being added soon.

Anyone know what Arnold Clark in Bishopbriggs is up to ?

The offices between the Toyota and Renault have been demolished and no sign of any planning applications for the site being levelled

May just be creating more display area but would have thought that would need a planning application?

I've no idea what's going on at Bishopbriggs, what I do know however is that Crow Road VW Service Department is relocating, they are building a new one on South Street next to where GTG and the Hire Drive branch are. Bishopbriggs Maybe extended forecourt for used cars at the Toyota branch, because it's very cramped and tight for space round the back of the Briggs with customer parking, used car displays, batches of new unreg cars parked up, the body shop and all the accident damaged cars, trade ins still to be prepped for sale, auction cars and sold used cars. It's a bit of a nightmare going in there.

I assume the vacated service, workshops and parts departments at Crow Road will be used to enlarge the showrooms even further, even though they already have a massive new car showroom and a used car showroom at the rear with loads of cars in it too.

This is seeming to become the norm, no longer are the sales, service, parts departments in the same building, usually either separate buildings on the same site or the aftersales side is offsite, out of sight out of mind because you aren't splashing out on a new car? And going to a dealer parts department no longer do you go into the showroom, you're ushered round the rear of the building into a wee side door with a counter and a bell. Ford Linwood, Wishaw VW and Rutherglen VW parts are hidden out the road.

Oh yes, they have Abarth as well. Alfa are up in there now as well, I found all this out the hard way! Went up there on Saturday to Test drive the new Sportage or Cee'd GT. Had a poke around the showroom and noticed no Kia's, told the dude at the front desk we were there to meet a saleswoman from Kia and he said they had moved in February! I asked why they still have the big Kia signs outside plastered across half the building then, errr haven't taken them down it.

This has been happening in Inverness as well, Skoda and Volvo sharing a showroom but the servicing and parts being shared with Peugeot, BMW,Mini and Mercedes all with there own showrooms and workshops but parts all operated from Mercedes. The old Mini showroom has been demolished and the site cleared but nothing happening so far with the old BMW premises which are really outdated.

The ex BMW dealership on Harbour Road has a planning permission in place to refurbish it into a Skoda dealership, so id imagine the existing Skoda/Volvo dealership will become solus Volvo showroom or possibly they may even now be able to use part of it as a Volvo workshop.

Arnold Clark seem to not have any long term plans for their branches at the moment, they will build a new dealership for a particular brand and then move or relocate it on a whim the moment more property becomes available.

Case in point is in Aberdeen where Fiat/Jeep/Abarth and Kia shared a site, Ford commercials had its own site, and Aberdeen Mazda/Ford/Hyundai/Citroen had a sales site at Craigshaw Road and a separate Service site on Girdleness Road, Girdleness Road was gutted by a fire and when rebuilt had had a Ford commercials branch added on to it, and Kia got the old Ford commercials site.

And in Glasgow when Arnold took over Harry Fairbairn in 2006, they were in the process of building a Mini sales and service branch and BMW service branch all on a site at Burnfield Road while BMW sales was staying on Fenwick Road with the old workshop being extended into a larger showroom, Only after Arnolds head office moved to Hillington and built a Renault/Dacia dealership on site too, Paisley and Pollokshaws Renault got closed and relocated to there, Kilmarnock Road VW got moved to Pollokshaws Renault premises, and Mini got both sales and service moved to the old Kilmarnock Road VW branch, and Burnfield Road is now solely BMW service, Any of those branches despite being recent openings could move again at any time.

Looks like the demolished offices between the Renault & Toyota garages in Bishopbriggs are being turned into hard standing display area or parking

May even be staff parking to get cars away from filling surrounding streets Aye right :-)

Up at Arnold Clark VW in Crow Road today and the indoor used car showroom at the back has a To Let sign up which I found odd, being marketed by Ryden, according to the salesman Arnold Clark own the whole of that area, the access roads, the main VW dealership and all the land, but DONT own the used car showroom oddly, they were leasing it and the lease has run out, not sure why they didnt just renew the lease, but seemingly they tried to buy it off the landlord, had it valued at around £1.8m, but the landlord was asking £6m, so AC have went "fk that" but will be interesting to see what happens with whoever does end up leasing it because AC could refuse to let them use the access road which is their land, and there is nowhere for any parking, loading etc. because Arnold Clark own all the land for parking and storage as well.

However this might explain why Crow Road service department/workshops are being moved to South Street next to GTG/AC Rental depot, so the service departments vacated space can be used for a used car showroom or an additional hard standing used car display area.

I seem to recall that bit of the building being Toys R Us or something similar a number of years back

It was the "Jolly Giant" Toy Store

This proves why never to trust a Car Salesman... the unit has parking for 250 vehicles to the side and rear. The rear section is described as a "yard" and the side section is described as a "parking section".
