Has anyone tried any of the new routes being touted, eg the one in the south west of Scotland? Thinking of heading that way next week.
I grew up there so know the roads very well - the area is well worth a visit but the choice of roads for the route is not a driver’s one. The A75 is a hellish road as is the A77.

The Dalveen Pass starting on the A702 from Elvanfoot, through Thornhill, New Galloway and on to Newton Stewart would be much better!
A713 is better than 75 or 77

It's not part of the NC500, and it's not in Scotland.

Probably explains why it's on the 'wrong' side of the road.

err... well you're right, it's not part of the NC500... but watch the video (driving on the 'right' side of the road)

It is wrong in so many ways that they posted this, and they have already apologised.

Still empty. Easter in a couple of weeks. Always busy then.

Here in Ft William there’s been a big jump in the number of RVs, I must have counted about a dozen in the various supermarket car parks yesterday.
Thought it might be quiet this year due to the virus but no difference that I can see.

Survivalists - time to dig out the pitchforks? wink

I have to say I'd be concerned about booking ahead for the Highlands until the nationwide retail food supply situation returns to relative normality.

I also see the Mountain Rescue association has recommended folk consider carefully any more risky ventures into the hills, which seems sensible.

Is the cabin for sale 200m up from you still empty?

  • not creepy at all*
Sold and occupied. Sorry.

ETA: It had 40 offers over the asking price in the first week. We had an estate agent here the next week asking if we wanted to sell!

From that sign I took a detour to https://www.applecrossgallery.com/gallery

Some stunning photographs there. Any from Mr Carter? (just idle curiousity)

No... he's a mate. I only sell prints online. I often send people his way. My main job is in the music biz.

My faves here if you're interested: http://www.stevecarter.com/gallery1/MyFaves.htm

(I can't link to the shop as it would break PH rules).

Posted this in Biker Banter but...

For those planning a NC500 tour please consider this advice from the local MP...

If you live elsewhere, please don’t use the Highlands as your means of self-isolation. People live here who are trying to follow government guidance and the continuing flow of campervans and other traffic who appear to be escaping the cities is not helping.

Holy heck, I often say it's hard to take a bad picture of the Highlands but that is absolutely original and breathtaking...

It's a contest now which is my favourite, this one or your beardie with the goggles on smile

This advice must be relevant to many rural areas of these isles not just the Highlands and West Coast of Scotland ...

https://www.gov.scot/news/travel-warning/

Quote:

Tourism Secretary angry about 'irresponsible behaviour'.

Rural Economy and Tourism Secretary Fergus Ewing is urging people to stop travelling to the Highlands and Islands in a bid to avoid the Coronavirus.

People with second homes and campervans have been reportedly travelling to the area in recent days.

Mr Ewing said:

“I am furious at the reckless and irresponsible behaviour of some people travelling to the Highland and Islands. This has to stop now. Let me be crystal clear, people should not be travelling to rural and island communities full stop. They are endangering lives. Do not travel.

“Panic buying will have a devastating impact on the livelihoods of rural shops and potentially puts unwanted pressure on NHS services in our rural communities.

I was joking earlier about survivalists but clearly there's no depths to which people will not stoop. frown
