From another forum. Apparently it was towing a small car. Think we can guess where these hairpins are….

I guess that they missed the huge sign at the start of the road ( I assume it's still there?) about the hairpin bends etc?

The old one was covered in 'I woz ere' stickers so totally unreadable. This year a new one has gone up, but it takes 30 seconds to read (so most pass by without taking in the info) and only recommends that caravans and motorhomes don't use the road.

Couldn't be arsed to find my pic, but this is Riley's

Is there a similar warning sign at the top end. That looks like it's going downhill?
(In more ways than one)

This is at the start (bottom - going up), but as I say, it's been replaced as stupid people decided to cover it with stickers, for some completely unknown reason.

Travelled it a good few times but always going up the way. Will have to try and attack it from the north next time to see.

I don't recall the signs at the Applecross end having been sujected to such tomfoolery.

Im thinking of doing a 7-9 day tour in a transit custom campervan.

Is the end of September beginning of October to late will sites be shut?

Hopefully the midges will be gone though?

Midges should be gone.
Most sites are open until October but some shut end of September.
Here’s some info on sites … link has nothing to do with me.

The Applecross sign was largely free of stickers when I enjoyed a weekend’s camping behind the Inn with a pal in June 2017.

I think that's because they're constantly having to clean them off. It was worse the year before you went -

Ah, I hadn’t realised that! I wonder how the new one will fare?

The new one is a lot higher up. (Taller I mean).

Depends on how many are using Waze and also mobile coverage, which is not always great. I wouldn't be relying on it, certainly on the well known sections (Garve to Loch Maree, Ullapool approaches from the South, the "mound" on the A9, A9 from Inverness to Alness) Other common locations for vans/cars are available I'm sure - I've not been further North than Garve for a number of years now.

There's no fixed speed camera sites if that's what you mean, the ones mentioned above and others are just popular places for the camera van to sit.
