I just had my 1999 Jag XJR done by Mark at http://www.preserveprotect.co.uk/home/4589517363

He is a proper enthusiast and the underside of my car has been undersealed beautifully. He also did various cavities/doors with wax.

He took the trouble to tidy up a couple of small things which other garages/bodyshops had missed, at no extra cost.

I cannot recommend the guy highly enough.

So refreshing in an age of tradesmen who cant be bothered!

Always good to read a first hand recommendation post. It is now 'cut and pasted' into the useful auto info file. Thanksthumbup

Cost? Yes, no problem. Chap quoted me £600 - £650 depending on what he found when the car was properly cleaned. 2-3 days for the job.

He ended up contacting me to say he'd like to keep it for another day to apply/cure extra dinitrol stuff. While he had it he fixed a loose bumper element and made new fixings for my wheelarch covers, both of which jobs (2)other bodyshops had failed/forgotten/couldn't be bothered to fix.

I got £750 together for the guy, reckonning he'd charge a bit extra. Got there, he had done a magnificent job and charged me £600. A properly decent chap.

I assume its cheaper if you just want the underseal, but I got the full cavity treatment since old Jags literally disappear before your eyes over the winter. Annual inspections are free and encouraged.

Also a very nice guy. Totally differnt to most of the dross currently working in automotive maintenance.

I concur!

I had my 1991 Eunos done there in October and Mark did a fantastic job.

The underside of my wee car looks ace now, just about as nice as the topside biggrin

I had the full clean, cavity wax and underseal along with wheelarch removal and it came in around £400 which is money well spent IMO.

har har, same here, in fact I think he actually got the underside looking better, so I'm going to have to get the wax out if the rain ever stops! hehe

Glasgow/Central Scotland has definitely been crying out for a rustproofing service like Mark's.

The only place I can ever recall offering a decent service was Ziebart at Seafield in Edinburgh and that was years ago!

Luckily I have attacked the paint on my car with the rotary and many layers of wax over the winter as she's been tucked up in the garage so the top shine is worthy of the lovely underpinnings now.

Ziebart.....now that is years ago. I remember my parents Triumph 2.5PI with a Ziebart sticker on the window. The car smelt for ages after the Ziebart was applied.

Always good to hear of positive experiences.

The Disco is going to get treated at the end of the summer to keep it clean and happy.
Have the start of surface rust on the chassis frame so now is a good time to clean and treat it.

Sounds like something Scotland has needed, not some generic waxoyl.

Can he take care of any existing corrosion on the underside if he finds any?

Yes, if he finds rust (I guess there's always going to be some) he can either use a rust curer product to stabilise it, or if needed, he has an ex RAF welder available to carry out 'surgery'.

Is this worth doing?

My car is dry stored all year and rarely sees any rain.

It's something I'm considering as the car approaches its 20th birthday but not sure if it's a waste of money with the car not seeing rain.

I wouldn't have thought so in that instance, providing they're not a common rotbox.

The car is a 1998 BMW Z3M coupe. I'll have a look next time it's on the ramp to see how the factory protection is fairing, if it's looking rough I'll might get it booked in for a refresh

Thanks for the info, I've been looking for just this type of service for a while. Spoke with Mark and booked for a visit to chat about my Griff chassis.

Cheers

My car is a 1999 jag and it wasn't at all bad for rust, but when they cleaned the underside tons of the factory underseal was flaking away, so I was glad I caught this (the whole floor of these older jags can disappear fairly quickly if left to its own devices hehe ). So well worth it to check the condition of your underseal.

I had my car back in at Preserve Protect to get some mudflaps on Wednesday. When we took a good look, we noticed the guys who had fitted and painted the new front wings had missed out the anti-stonechip paint on the lips of the arches, so Mark kept the car for a couple of days to seal, cure, and coat all the relevant bits before fitting the flaps. Got it back today and its another really tidy job. All for the price of taking the kids for a burger.

Thread bump.

Visiting Mark on Thursday morning to let him have a look over the Disco3 for getting it booked in.

Mentioned this thread on how i found him.
Very nice bloke to chat to and has done a Disco 3 not long ago so looking forward to the visit.

Going to get the chassis all cleaned up and treated before i stick my 2nd fuel tank where the spare wheel goes.
Plus tidy up some surface rust areas under the car before it gets worse.

My car was in at a jag indie last week (Prestige Jag, Paisley, great service) and Douglas mentioned how thoroughly the rustproofing had been done.

My dads Jag is going there tomorrow for the belts and an alignment at them on Friday....

I use them for the Disco to get alignment. Decent service from them as well.
