State of the roads
Discussion
Roads in Ayrshire are in a similar state, M77 is like an off road course near Fenwick(where, coincidentally, a lot of accidents happen.... ) I'm currently filling out a claim for my Xtrail, so even 4x4's aren't immune,
But, surprisingly the pothole I hit and am claiming them for got filled in the very next day...............

I called to find out how my claim is going. The local office has to process the issue, and then it gets forwarded to the insurance company Gallacher and Basset in Stirling who can take up to 6 months to process!
Wonderful they are dealing with an East Dunbartonshire one for meI've been up and down the A82 in my Jimny with 215/75R15 ATs (and steel modular wheels)....
What potholes? Wouldn't trade my 4x4 for anything now as a winter daily, just powers through any conditions between Glasgow and Ballachulish, you feel the potholes, but you never feel like anything is even remotely close to breaking, tyre takes almost all the beating. It is the same in the Merc Sprinter I drive for work. Best thing is that you can get good AT tyres nowadays that will last 50k miles and are 3PMSF rated.
If you have never considered a small 4x4 you should try one out, it really is the key to stress free commuting, the driving dynamics aren't the best but they can be fun in their own way. (B-road hoons at 55-70mph, holding on for dear life around the corners as your vehicle pitches over at 30degrees... all mostly legal!)

Driving on the M77 these days is like driving on slalom course. But, surprisingly the pothole I hit and am claiming them for got filled in the very next day...............
The M8 through Glasgow city centre is a bloody joke.
There are huge sections from Jct16 West that have condemmed lane 1 to an off road track and it's spreading into lane 2 as well.
East bound coming to the Kingston bridge and crossing it is also a mess.
Seen a few cars parked up with burst left tyres due to it.
Even with the off road tyres on the Disco3 i'm still very wary of them, only takes a bad one for a tyre to be gone, or need tracking redone.
I wouldn't like to run anything with 40 profile or lower as it must be hard to drive while watching for every hole in the road.
NLC cost saving is also a joke, all the main roads are falling apart and getting deep and long broken and cracked sections in them.
Still, need to pay for those Gaelic road signs cause it's such a fking widespead spoken language....

Spotted in Glasgow Herald Diary today
Pothole luck
A Wemyss Bay reader expresses cynicism at Scotland TranServe, which maintains the A78 and informed residents out of the blue that “an opportunity has arisen” to bring forward work to repair potholes on the road. Indeed, work started on Monday, and continued on Tuesday, just ahead of the undoubted coincidence that Princess Anne was due to visit yesterday. Lesson: if you want your potholes done, invite a royal.
Now we know how to get them fixed :-)

Agreed, the entire roads network is knackered from B roads to Motorways the length and breadth of the country. I am now on my second Jimny with A/T tyres!!! Motoring is no longer a joy as I spend every day swerving and dodging craters. Today I had to travel from Dumfries to Edinburgh and back with work. Normally I would have relished a run up and down the A701 in my V8 Monaro, but the thought of the potential damage made me take the train! Sick to the back teeth of the state of our roads.
Interesting solution

I'm with you there... I'm off to see a mate up Auchterarder direction in the morning, missus is away, forecast to be cold but bright so was getting quite excited about a early morning blast without the family in tow, planned my route and nipped out last night to put fuel in the car. Rattled a pot hole about 500yds from the house then about lost my sense of humour having bumped over 7 speed bumps, between which the roads looked like they'd been carpet bombed. To make matters worse, if you exercise caution there's usually some impatient, zero f**ks idiot in a white goods SUV welded to your back bumper getting irate at your slow progress.
Now sat thinking the run tomorrow will be more of the same and thus, either a chore or worst case, an expensive day out. Debated the M90 and stick to the trunk roads but they'll probably be worse. Now debating just taking the old diesel estate... which is also on 18's so doesn't really solve the issue... so perhaps take her car... which is also on 18's... now sat debating my choice in cars!
It's crap, really does take any joy out of driving... perhaps that what they hope to achieve.
Down at Tartan Tarmac could not believe state of roads on way out
Then hit large pothole on elevated section of M8 before J15 there goes another tyre 2nd of weekend
The joys of Glasgow roads
Update Within hour Transport Scotland called asking for location of pothole to go out and fix

Typical pot hole, of which we have many in Essex
Essex CC view of this
This type of pothole falls below our maintenance criteria for repair, however, it will continue to be monitored via our regular safety inspections. You can continue to tell us about this but please be aware that it is unlikely that any action will be taken unless an inspection deems it necessary.

This winter is the worst that I recall for potholes.
The A82 in Fort William got so bad that they had to scrape off the top layer for a stretch of about a mile in the town. Huge potholes across Rannoch Moor and through Glencoe, but most of these filled in last week. However I'm sure all the patches will dig out again as soon as there's more snow.
