Dont move to Bathgate, Livingston or Armadale area. In fact most of the m8 motorway corridor is best avoided housing wise. Most of it has been built in the later part of the 20th century as they cleared the slums in Glasgow and Edinburgh

Edinburgh is not a big city (500k people). You can be on the beach (not warm)or in the mountains within half an hour of the city centre. Parking is terrible in the centre. The locals just use the buses to get around town
