Golf Mk4 1.4 Vs Seat Arosa 1.0 Mpi
Discussion
I'm looking to replace my Seat Arosa with a Mk4 golf. But it needs to be either the sdi or 1.4 E model for insurance reasons because i'm 17.
However, will the golf feel more powerful than my arosa?
And will it be a good car for me on B-Roads obviously i don't need something too quick because i'm learning, but i want something with good handling and is good fun to drive.
So is it worth me changing cars?
Any other car choices are well recieved, but parents don't want me to have anything bigger than a 1.4.

Unless you need the extra space, as Gompo said why not go for another Arosa/Lupo?
My Arosa Sport is only 1 insurance group more than a mk4 1.4 golf and as far as I'm aware it's a fair bit quicker.
It may not be the petrol-heads choice but the 1.4tdi is also meant to be pretty good for what it is since it can be remapped for more fun and is very cheap to tax, insure and run.
Personally I would try and build up a few no claims and get something faster though, it brings insurance down quite a lot, especially after the first year.

I have the 1.6 Mk4, yes, its VW... but its started to become unreliable. Had new lamba probe, MAF, temp sensor, fuel filter... and getting ready to change water pump, thermostat and cambelt.
Yes, some of the above may be because its that 'time' and their period has ended... but the MAF, temp sensor, fuel filter and lamba probe have all been replaced to try and fix a 18mpg problem.

I have an Arosa 1.4 S TDi and its pretty nippy!! Peanuts to insure, £35 annual road tax, 55/60mpg if driven sensibly and a bit less if you give it some stick.... Its no sports car but if i was 17 again this would be the sort of car i would get.
The fun is in the acceleration - at the lights it surprises a lot of cars, and the mid-range torque is quite good to make overtaking easy. Can be remapped to about 105bhp which is a lot in such a small car.
They are quite reliable as well being part of the VAG group.
