Woolies in the Bon Accord centre, spending all my birthday money on sweets as a young loon. My mum used to talk about a set of twins that worked in there for years when she was wee, 30 odd years ago now.

This is really cool looking at all these posts, I'm only 22 but theres the odd one or two I remember. I did my work experience at One Up when I was still in school, shame they're gone now.

I remember it being in a wee cobbled street off King Street down the side of a bingo hall (previously cinema). Fredrick Street maybe?

The only boozer (past / present) I can think of round there is the PoW.

A well as two Pizzalands, there was a Pastaland in Union Street. Anyone remember it?

Radar's on Belmont Street. Went there in my teens and was the last customer to leave on their closing night. Something magic about the place.

1-Up on Rosemount Viaduct. Where the air was filled with joss sticks and patchouli oil and vinyl was king.

Frankie Stills in Rosemount.

The shop sold a lot of stuff below cost (that's another story though!) wink

Does anybody remember the club in the early-80s run by the Church of Scotland minister, Lance Stone? It was just along from the PoW in some derelict old music hall (owned my Markies, I think) and had live music (he used to give bands rehearsal space and this was their 'payment'), a disco and attracted mods, bikers, casuals, goths, punks and rockers with their carry outs. Just a prayer at the end of the night and never any trouble or fights. Think it was called The Cobweb?

Were they albino identical twins, by any chance?

Can anyone tell me the names of the 4 Beach front cafes in the 1950s and 1960s?

Since this thread has been resurrected, I was in the "New Market" a few weeks back. I needed wheelie bin numbers and someone suggested "Nickel & Dime".

What a weird place. It was like going to a shopping mall in the Middle East when you're not very sure exactly what it is the shops sell.

Now, I remember this place being lovely and shiny and modern when I was a kid.

So, the projection is that Marischal Square will look as squalid as this in a few yeas time ... meanwhile, everyone will have forgotten about Provost Skene's house and it'll have crumbled.

I can remember the original market which was on three floors. Especially the fish tank outside the Penguin Café, and the Victorian amusement machines in the entrance from Union Street, which worked for a penny.

Talking of markets, I remember the Co-op one at Loch Street that was on two floors. I remember being taken there in 1970 by my mum to buy a blazer for a wedding. Next time I was there was in 83/84 taking a picture of the gates and the stray cats before it was demolished to make way for flats...

Ahh the co-op divie! I think the first thing I ever uttered as a child was "66793"
God help me if I was ever sent on an errand for Sunblests best sliced and forgot the magic number!

You fellows seem to be about the right vintage. Do any of you people know Bob Leckie, Jimmy Milne or Jimmy Robson who were all active in Aberdeen Motor Sport in the late '60s/early 70's?

Last saw Bob Leckie quite a few years ago. He had the Vale Hotel in Alford. No idea where he is now.

Jimmy Milne - was he a fish merchant and took part in weight lifting ?.
Holy Post ressurection.

Bizarrely I've just delivered firewood to Bob Leckie today!
