Oil Pressure for Rover V8 engines
Discussion
Hi
Millers 20/50 for me, or good old Castrol GTX 20/50?
TVR did recommend and use on later Rover V8 (Serp engines) Mobil 1 but apart from being expensive to me it's to thin. I think that is were alot of people have got confussed which oil to use because you hear from Grifff and Chim owners that they use synthetic oils etc and people just think a Rover V8 are the same no matter when they were built.

Use to use 15/40 but changed to 20/50 after advice off a rv8 specialist. Higher oil pressure frightened me at first but runs far better as long as you let it warm up and dont go and kick its head in when cold. The lad also warned me to stay well away from stp oil treatment as in his words (does no good whatsoever so whats the point of adding it) oil companys have researched for years none have said oil treatments are good for your car. Just my opinion though. Gearboxes are a different story.

I totally disagree with this comment. I have always used STP in all my performance engines and it does the engine a world of good. It increases viscosity and oil pressure and helps stop the oil breaking down at high temperatures. If you've ever touched STP you'll instantly know how slippery it feels compared to oil. That mixed with your existing oil will increase the quality of your oil. They use STP on the racing track on racing cars. However, I do agree that the Rover engines in the Wedges were designed for using 20/50 oil and these modern oils of today are too thin.Tony. TCB.

Tony, my (perhaps simplistic) take on additives is that if you want to change the viscosity, or may encounter high oil temperatures, buy an oil that meets these requirements, rather than modifying something else. High ester oils such as Motul 300V or Fuchs / Silkolene Pro are all I will use in the 400. Tony. TCB.

Point taken, but these oils come at a price, and a lot of people don't actually know what they need or require for their engines. Consequently they use standard 20/50 oils. All I'm saying is that under these circumstances, STP or Moyslip oil additives at less than £5 a shot can only improve the quality of the oil they are using.Tony. TCB.
Like I said it's just what I have been told off a v8 specialist Tony. I'm assuming he might have more of an idea than the likes of myself who has read a book or two. He vehemently told me to save my money as its no value at all. To be honest he has no reason to be anti or pro oil treatments so would he just be saying this for the sske of it?
Anyway I won't put any in my filler cap everybody else has their own opinion.
I always put a teaspoon of honey...Some lemon zest and a pinch of cinnamon in mine..I was told this by "Mr Sparks"...I don't doubt a word he say's...Especially as Noddy's car has run for 59 years without a problem...It has the Noddy nod of approval which is good enough for me....If you have a problem with it then speak to "Mr Plod"!....Ziga (And his V8 pancake maker)
