Hi gents,

All is well, but I’m having a crisis. I bought my 400SE about five years ago. Been looking for an example that suits me for about 2 years. My wedge fits the bill. Moonraker black, red leather. NCK engine and with a previous owner as Tim Lemont, it did 255 bhp on the rear wheels at Mark Adams. Chassis has been done, outriggers replaced. Total history complete, including receipts for washer fluids… During my ownership, is requested just regular maintenance. I only faced 2 “problems” a dodgy wire and the headlamp switch sometimes hesitates which was solved by replacing the switch. It’s more than a well sorted car. If I need to go on a 1000mls trip tomorrow, no hesitations and take the wedge if possible. It’s not good, it’s brilliant.
The misses likes it, when we are for a drive with the Vixen, she said she feels like she’s a Bond girl. When we take the wedge for a spin, she asked which bank we are going to rob today ;-)(I know, I keep the misses) I have the garage space and no financial considerations for selling.
The thing is, I’ve got a MOT test yesterday (as expected; it flew through without recommendations) and when I added the MOT results to the service history, I struck me that I only drove it 700mls last year. Cars like our wedges are built to be enjoyed. Annoy the neighbours, let the kids wave and owners grin. If you do that, it will give its best. In the past years the misses and I took it regularly, but since the little daughter arrived in this summer. We just don’t go out that often as we became the three of us. Does my beloved wedge deserves a new owner?

Sell your normal Eurobox and drive the wedge every day.

Hi John. I was in the same situation as you 8 years ago, with a 7 month old daughter, a peach of a 350i not being used as much as it should do and the need to get my wife a decent family car. So I sold the Wedge to fund the latter. The first year wasn't too bad, but I really started to regret the sale after that. 8 years on and I'll very soon be in the position to buy another and this time I have a garage and a workshop ready too! Do I regret selling up? Yes. Was it the right thing to do at the time? Yes. Did it mean I'd never get another one? No. It's a heart and head thing that only you can decide...

By the way, your Wedge sounds like a really rough old thing - I'll give you £5K for it... wink

Good suggestion, however the Eurobox (Jag S-type R) is bought new by my dad and I dove it since he passed away. It used mainly by the misses for going to work and if we the three of us need to be somewere. I work across the street so don't need a car to commute.
In that sense, I could try to find a new job which is further away, so I can use the wedge for commuting.

Hi Rick,

That might be the core of the crisis. I will probably regret both, keeping it or selling it...

If you don't need the money, and you've got the space, keep it. Even if you only do a few hundred miles for the next few years it will still be there when things change, and they will!

I am in a similar situation and have considered selling my immaculate 400SE. The reason being, I've totally lost intrest. Not in the Wedge itself, but the whole Wedge participation thing due to the grief I've had from a few other Wedge owners. Consequently, I've withdrawn from attending any events and shows but have decided to keep the Wedge. It's kept in a dry brick built garage and I don't need the money. I use it occasionally just for fun, and these days just take it in to a my local TVR specialist for servicing and repairs. My fetling days are over. For me, the Wedge is now a symbol of what used to be. Until such day when things may change.

Yes, that's her, the lovely old girl.

A spare afternoon and a bit of polish she looks like that yes. There is a lot of metallic in the painjob, so a bit of love and she shines as the sun!

I too have had the same thing happen to me, now my wife never goes out in the wedge as my daughter beats her to it all the time. I did 700 miles in two years about 3 years ago, just passed mot and the tester said you have done a lot of miles in it this year. 2,000 passed its co2 as well which really surprised him.

You should of come to this years Wedgefest as i had arranged a FREE mens cell cleansing treatment which would help in such dilemma's ...It consisted of a cold wet Mediterranean fish slapped about your mosh until you felt rejuvenated and refreshed with all your senses returned to normal...You then have the option to devour the fish in a choice of cooking styles ...smile

Throw a extra seat in the back and slap the kiddo in... (should work with a Wedge, you just need to find a crappy old seat). The little fellow survived and is 25 now - which make me very old.

I've never thought low mileage was a reason to sell a classic car. I just love owning mine. In fact this year I won't even do 100 miles, thanks mainly to rubbish weather at the weekends. Even the 100 miles is just a blast around local roads in a big circle

Discussion with the misses this weekend. She got angry when I suggested selling, so will give it a go and see how many miles we can do this year. She wasn’t fond on the “baby stuffed on the shelf” idea…
