Hi Peeps

After a slight mishap I had to replace my drivers side glass..It went through the insurance and a chap from auto-glass came and carried out the work....I managed to find a 280i green tint but I have noticed that the 280i glass compared to the 350i glass is comparatively thicker..The glass was siliconed in with windscreen silicone but doesn't want to go up the last 2" and needs to be helped up...It feels fairly tight and I would adjust the retaining cable but do not wish to disturb it all...

I may remove the plastic guide and file that down a bit...Any other suggestions?.....

Thanks

Ziga

Hi Paul

The glass was siliconed it without a rubber insert and my feeling is the same as yours..Without the rubber there would be an un-even gap between the two faces of the glass in the runner....frown

Im getting back on their case in the morning...Not happy.....

Cheers

Silicone grease on the runners (e.g. spray for curtain rails).

There is nothing wrong in bonding (in fact, it's better) provided you pack the bracket out to centralise the glass. The bonding option is usually taken not for strength or longevity, but because it's easiest/quickest for the fitter.

Thanks for the info mate..I have spoken to the fitter and he suggests removing the plastic guide and reducing it as the runner is floating...TBH it does look like this could sort it as the glass is thicker....He has offered to come and do it again...I think I should set up a business that repairs repairs.....hehe

Hi Mark

Pics of your problem would be nice, to see what the actual problem is. As I am uncertain what is the plastic guide you are talking about?

Hi Mark

Glad you sorted it, but a grey plastic insert is a new one to me.

Rubber inserts and just the normal runner felt is what I normally see, but you managed to fix it.

Who fitted the grey insert?

I have grey plastic inserts on the 350i. It's like a 1" rectangle of plastic with a slot for the window. They don't seem to be held in very well either...

@John: Good idea to make some, have a good look at an original as I think they are sloped from top to bottom to avoid snagging...smile

been doing some work on the wedge today altered the suspension settings to be more road orientated and while at it had a look at the blocks dosent look to bad a job will have a go but might be a while with the blue wedge job and a chimaera to rebuild as priorities.
