Well, second time in my ownership on a lowloader..
Not bad at all in eight years of ownership !!

And in all honesty, my car is super reliable.

Anyhoo, started to splutter on the M25....figured out of fuel and managed to get to a station.
Fill up.....but no startee.

Let her cool, pulled fuel line away from regulator, put it into an empty bottle and cranked..........no fuel coming up.

trailered back home and suspect fuel pump problem. (probably the original)

Any ideas fedders ?

Thank you.

Bugger it, went out just now and she started.

Ran her for a while (5mins) turned her off then tried to restart.
Same problem.....no luck

Sounds like loose connection, intermittent relay, that sort of thing. Get it running then don't stop it, start wiggling wires.

Hi mate

Could be a loose connection on the pump...Or possibly pulled some crud into the pump, especially if it ran low....Be careful wiggling wires as you can induce more problems..

if i have the car running and pull the relay.....will she cut out or keep running ?

having trouble identifying the correct relay.

Could it be a "failing" pump ?

There is a red pektron steering relay that controls the pump, although these rarely fail...I would systematically pull each relay and give it a light clean with some 1500 grit or a finger nail board and replace ...When the car is running lay next to it and just move the wires going to the pump as I have had these work loose due to them being spade connections instead of eyelets bolted on....

It might also be worth changing the post fuel filter while you are at it...

Check the fuse holder for firmness, I normally give the blades a slight twist to ensure good contact.. Think it may be the pump. Suggest you fit a pre filter.

Have you got a pre filter? If not, that's almost certainly what it is. The smallest piece of crud from the tanks goes in and it's jammed. Same happened to me years ago

got a pre filter guys thanks.

Rudimentary question:

If i disconnect the pipe (from below) which enters the pressure regulator. Upon cranking, i should get a stream of fuel....right ?

Not the pipe which connects regulator to Plenum, nor the breather tube.

I get fuel coming out of the regulator......backfeed ?

Perhaps that's the way the flow runs.........fuel "supply" comes in on the other side.( i mean otherside of the plenum.....passenger side)

Hi mate

The feed from the pump is fed to the fuel rail and the return from the O/S rail to the regulator...This is how it regulates the pressure...so from fuel rail to side input of reg and bottom outlet to tank return...vacuum on top...

Hope this helps

Yeah sounds like you disconnected the return pipe.

The fact that the regulator is outputting fuel means you have fuel pressure.

But you could work back from that and run the rail input into a measuring jug, I'm sure someone will come along with the flow rate soon.

Hi all,
get one of these, they will clean dirty/corroded contacts, pins, connector and pcb edges etc.
Dont use above you as the fibres are fine glass but really effective. Should be an essential in a TVR tool kit.
