Hi everyone I am the proud owner of a '350 I . First impressions after owning loads of classic cars are good and look forward to enjoying it. I have a bit of hesitation when accelerating so gonna change plugs cap and rotor arm at weekend . Probably been asked before but what plugs are best and what other causes of hesiitation.. cheers

Hi and welcome to Wedge world. Loud, in your face, easy to repair and in my view best value V8 car around. Plugs wise I always use NGK BPR6ES. You can get 8 for around £25. I've a couple of wedges and had a few issues with rough running in the past and all issues were down to HT issues. Plugs, dirty or worn rotor arm and Dissy cap and HT leads breaking down when warm. Never scrimp on HT leads, try and buy decent quaĺity leads such as as Bosch or Lucas leads. Good luck. Cheers Keith

Hi & Welcome

As Keith says....(I think we could write a book on mis-fires...biggrin)

Definitely replace all the serviceable items...buy good quality rotor arm...Not the red one...a mid range set of plug leads and dont forget to get an extra long king lead...Sometimes this is the problem as previous owners sometimes forget that the king lead needs to be longer and it gets left...also clean up the earths on the N/S suspension turret...(Engine bay side) and the two earth points on the N/S lower rear rocker cover area..The bottom one is the ECU.

TVR Wedges can make you swear...Cry..hate the world...but they can also make you laugh...act like a school child...smile from ear to ear ....also there is no MPG from a Wedge..Only SPG...(smiles per gallon)

Enjoy

Hi

The black distributor cap is better..blue is okay....They dont rev much passed 5600rpm...but have a good amount of low down torque...over 200ftlbs

Mine developed a misfire around 3 - 4k revs last year and an unwillingness to rev out properly. Turned out to be a broken HT lead. Put on a new set (with long king lead) and changed the dizzy cap and rotor arm at the same time. Normal service was resumed! I would change these three components annually anyway - they're not a lot of money.

Agree with KKson on the plugs too.

Enjoy!

I have a misfire when hot, and whilst I don't do many miles at all in my car, I consider the cap dizzy and leads to all be relatively new albeit a few years old.
Do you think they degrade through age as well as miles ?

Where's the best place to get them ?

Cheers

Hi matey

I have found that the plug leads fail more so than anything but I do use mine a fair bit...I buy a mid range set every year (£25-30), along with a new extra long king lead..Cleaning the bullet connector from the dizzy helps...(B&W wires)...the connector is usually under the AFM....Most sets of leads listed for Land rover disco 1 or classic V8 efi will be okay...just ask them if they supply an extra long king lead....Wiping out the dizzy cap every now and then helps to keep water ingress to a minimum...bit of contact cleaner or electrical lube.....smile

Hot misfires could be CTS or ignition amp related....

I use these guys...they always normally manage to get a longer K lead...30" or there about...

Hi new owner - welcome to the mad-house.

Just in case you don't read about it anywhere else, or find out too late, the TVR Car Club Spring Show is on at Burghley House, Stamford Lincs (just off the A1, 10 miles north of Peterborough, on Sunday 8th April, ie six weeks on Sunday.

It costs a fiver to get your TVR in, and there will be 400-500 other TVRs of all flavours there to gawp at and chat with the owners. If the TVR isn't running (well, it is a wedge whistle ), come anyway - the public car parks are free.

There is usually a food fair happening on the same day, and half price admission to the stately home, so bring the other/better half.

And on the previous day there will be a couple of organised run-outs around the local countryside. One starts I think from Colsterworth services, A1, about 15 miles north of Stamford, and I believe the start time is 11am or thereabouts. The other starts at 2pm from the Royal Oak at Duddington, on the A43 just south of the A47 junction, about 10 miles south west of Stamford. Check nearer the times for start times and locations, as I may be remembering old info. I understand that the run organisers have now made it so that you can actually do both runs, after much insubordination in the ranks when the runs overlapped.

It is a small world !

I live in Kingsbury (just outside Tamworth)

That's four cars within a 10 mile radius. (I've got two) !!!

I must get mine on the road this year, and meet up.

Mike

I am in Sutton Coldfield with a couple of TVR's.

The West Midlands TVR club monthly meet is the 3rd Sunday from 12, at the Bulls Head in Meriden.

Really good turnout and really good bunch of social people, we do a lot of events and you will get a lot of advice and support.
