HI Leigh, to be honest the engine might not need a full rebuild. All i want to do is get it stripped and inspected to find out how cam is, heads cleaned, block acid dipped to get rid of all gunk not for it to block the rad etc, aly bits polished so it looks good. As i dont want all the hassle of doing all the outside detailing and then fitting it to find that i have to take it back out to do more remedial work, I might be able to have a go myself as have done other v8's. Obviously this is not your usual v8 tho is it. I am pretty confident in what i can do but to know when a bit needs replacing is another thing.
Maybe in the next week or so i will take a better look, start to take ancilliaries off etc, and end up with the bare enigne, then decide where i go from there. Get ready for a barrage of silly stupid questions. To be honest i dont want to muck up a might be perfect but rare engine...........................ta

What mileage has your engine done. I took the heads off my 400se (NCK20HW) at about 65k.the cam and bores were perfect. Just gave it a decoke, and put it back together with new seals and gaskets. Took the opportunity to fit the later type valley seals and plates.

one of the only tracks I've not raced at, but have been there supporting the DTEC races.
I've Had my 400SE for 24 years, so been on the scene for quite a while. plus had quite a distinctive FHC wedge race car (That I fully re-build including the Rv8 Engine), had to do some cleaver re-designs to get it to fit in a narrow wedge chassis, without cutting the chassis.

And I had a new cam at 7k...

Thats not too grim...I think its closer to 3K to DIY in parts.....a cam and follower kit is around 1-1.5K...valves are £60-70 each...blabla

No...I said between £1,000-£1,500....You probably have a Kent 218 fast cam in the 390SE...Do you have double springs?...
https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-RB7719

Plus postage...

Cost all the parts and see what it comes to....Dont forget the water pump and all associated water and oil hoses...The tools if you dont have them already...all new good gaskets...etc etc....Personally if I owned an NCK then I would definitely let the man loose on it who probably built it in the first place!.....

This is only my personal opinion you understand...;)

What’s actually wrong with your engine that your aware of. You might just need a refresh or just new shells etc.
£4500 does seem expensive but you get what you pay for and thats a fully rebuilt motor with a warrrantee.
Vernier timing gears etc.
I had an engine refresh off Dom well over 5 years ago now and it just rolls on with a lot of power. Over 25,000 miles so far and seems just as good as the day I got it back.

With some porting and slight head work incl 71 mm Plenum im looking for 320 Bhp and over 350/360 ft lb torque de Cat from this engine. It’s a 4.6 and presently has around 300/340 with standard Rover 38 mm induction but does benefit from a different Ecu system which bumps up the torque quite a bit.
It’s fast as my 1/4 mile drag time surely proves. wink

Remember if it’s an NCK and has 93.5mm pistons (Cosworth etc) then getting new pistons rings is errrrr impossible (as I am finding)
