Hi,as soon as I remove the breather cap/oil filler or pipe to it the engine stalls.Joe the former owner whom I'm still in touch with has been following the problem and wondered if I'm getting fuel vapourisation where the left hand exhaust (new) comes close to the feed / return pipes just infront of the pump/filter/accumulator as its seems hot weather plays a factor? I could make a heat shield to cover the pipes -see if that makes any difference?i didn't have this problem in the winter ( though I hardly used the car) and runs better in the morning drive to work - cooler and less traffic.new exhaust could be sat nearer the pipes -I carnt remember how close the old one ran ?

BEFORE you take the inlet manifold off, check carefully that the oil isn't coming from one of the rocker cover gaskets.
This is a very common source of the oil by the dizzy. The oil sealing of the rocker covers is pretty awful IMHO.

This..I do not think fuel vaporisation is the cause...mainly because it would happen all the time...My 280i did have a fuel cooler down by the rad..I removed it and never suffered any.

As Andy say's...the rocker cover gaskets are poo...they are only available in cork so might need a new set...do you still have the spreaders on the covers...(Little metal clips)

Also did you check that the PCV valve is not sticking?

Have you some pictures of the manifolds.....

Thanks for the pics mate...
You can see the white arrow I have drawn on your pic...You might have to remove the small hose in front of it..Remove it from the plenum and pull it out of its grommet...its like a oneway valve...allowing pressure to flow into the rocker cover...It should rattle..it might be stuck...if not then its something else to eliminate...What is your timing set to and what fuel are you using....

Hi,pcv working ok.Ran to work no problem, coming home in traffic/ heat , hesitation every time I pulled away from a standstill and went flat a couple of times.Hesitation/stalled after twice turning roundabout/junction close to home.Think I will order new fuel filter and inspect ignition system.See how it runs in the morning. Hi mate

It does sound like a fuel starvation...are there any other filters on the fuel feed other than the bulkhead filter?....Don think there is anything wrong with your ignition.

Hi Mark,I'm of the same thoughts.im going to have another look at the pump -feed connection and all pipework around it feed and return. If nothing found I will order new filter and probably a pump ! There's always the swirl pot option .Could just fit filter and try it , if no better swap pump. This is my daily driver and seems to be getting worse. Dave

Hi Dave

To be fair I never had an issue without a swirl pot on a straight...Only if I was at 1/4 tank and went round a corner too fast...or sharply....smile

Hi Mark, checked pump -electrical connections solid.Feed pipe out of pump jubilee clip managed a few turns tighter. All pipes ,tees ,jubilees OK in tank/pump area.Followed solid pipes to engine bay, then onto hose.Where pipes run up to fuel distributor (feed and return) they had been try-wrapped to the radiator upstand and were 1/2 crushed! I've removed the ty-wrap and the pipes are free and full shape again. So there's not much else to check ,if no improvement tomorrow then filter/pump will be ordered.Dave
