hi all, this is a picture off my fuse box, 1989 350i with the centre horn button, and a picture off the right lay out for a 400se-450se-350i with a centre horn button, it say that the red relay should be in the far back right one ecu one,but someone has put in the main injection one ,what colour should the injection one be? and the fuel pump too are these right ?

The problem is that some articles show the layout taken from the fusebox lid and others from the fusebox and it's sometimes difficult to work out what's what
A Wedge owner will be along shortly to get you sorted

That Red Box with Pektron written on it isn't a relay and is often named "Pektron 1861 steering relay" although it isn't a relay
The Pektron 1861 has diodes and a resistor in it and could be burnt out if fitted to the incorrect fusebox socket
Here is a link to a good topic about the Pektron 1861 if you have problems with it https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

hi, thanks for your great info on this, so why is a red pekron steering relay use then?, this is the right way round as the diode is on the left top. so what is the right colour then for the ecu one and volts and for the fuel pump and the main injection ,does any one have these that they wish to sell many thanks,( on the lay out it say e.c.u revese polarity safety relay red)

This below image is from the topic I linked you to, the Pektron 1861 switches supplies to the fuel pump and injection relays, plus it also connects to the ECU and air flow meter.
Excuse my spelling mistake in the diagram where I have named the Pektron 1861 a "Plektron"

Those relays you mention are shown in this diagram, all you need to know from a Wedge owner is what the terminal configuration of the relays should be, there are two types of relay configuration and they can easily be mixed up and mess up the circuits

I am adding the relay types to the bottom of this post, ignore the center terminals 87a (pretend they are not there) as your system uses 4 terminal relays and this example image is of the 5 terminal type

Circuit diagram here shows the relays terminal configuration, click the image and click again to go full size, relays are shown near bottom right
You can use 5 terminal relays if you don't have 4 terminal relays handy, all this means is that the center 87a terminals aren't used although present

I don't understand what you mean by the above comment that I've highlighted, if you mean that the Pektron will be ok because it is fitted in that socket the correct way.....due to the Pektron looking like it is in the wrong socket there is a good chance that it has been damaged

The chances are that you mean the images are correct for the layout, whatever....the Pektron could now be damaged

If it helps I found this on another thread

which seems to agree with your piccy.

As far as I know all the relays are the same type (and this is obvious from the cct diagram),
The steering module being the odd one out of course.

If these are of the same model your Pektron isn't in the same position as that posted by adam quantrill if counting from left to right, the adam quantrill image matches the layout image you posted earlier

Sometimes the sockets have been messed about with and the order has been changed in error

You can easily find out which socket the Pektron should be fitted to by looking at the cable colours at the rear of the sockets
Pektron cable colours are -

Blue/Purple

White/Green

White/Red

White

You could take a look here https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
Near the bottom of the page poster "D1 MAD" comments -

"Just checked my relay arrangement. I have 17 of them in addition to the 'red' one which on mine is labeled 'ECU reverse polarity safety relay'. Most of the rest are numbered"

The above suggests that your Pektron should be in socket 6 "ECU reverse polarity safety relay" counting from left to right

With this and the image I am as certain as can be that your Pektron is not in its correct socket.....do check the cable colours at the back of the socket before moving any relays
