Where's the best place to buy a 3.9L
Discussion
Really? Maybe I scrapped my one too early then....
There must be a ready marker for a transmission then, I saved the box off it, 5 speed manual and transfer box.
I must say I prefer the earlier rangies to the later ones, I draw the line about when the Vogue came in.
WOW - just looked on the flea, the bellhousing alone sells for £120... looks liek a few beer tokens heading my way...

thanks all for info. I dont think i want to go down the route of super=charging tho, as want to go as stock as possible, other than a Holley or something. And not the lower compression ones also.
I seem to remember there is a list of engine codes somewhere relating to V8's. The 3.5 is AA ? The 3.9 is AB ? please correct me. All the way up to 5.0 L.
If I can find these codes I can find the right engine, not get caught buying a 3.5L being sold as a 3.9L etc.......

There are a few on the flea right now off range rovers, under a grand. If you want to up the CR then take off the heads and have them skimmed (which you might want to do anyway) and shim the rocker posts accordingly.
Before taking apart do a compression test to see what you are starting with.
With any of these engines budget on removing the crank and pistons and changing the bearings.
Or else budget on a rebuilt one for much more money/

hi all , looking to buy a carbed 3.9L, hopefully with a Holley etc. Where's the best place as cant find any on usual channels ? Ta
eBay is probably the easiest place. Or look for a 4.0/4.6 out of a p38. You’ll be lucky to find one with a 4 barrel carb fitted though. You will have to buy separately for this. I run an Edlbrock/Weber 500cfm on my 3.9. Whether it’s better or worse than a 390cfm Holly is up for debate. But i like how it goes.

I have but all seem trashed.
The numbers I was on about are the engine numbers, I think from memory my 350 was a 33A and my NCK is a 37A.
Are all 3.9's 37A ?
There is a list somewhere, cant find it, dug out Wedge Bibla but not in there. Where have I seen it????????????
