OK, if I'm understanding right....

Firstly it's NOT a rocket box behind the 2.8V6, It's a type 'B' (or Type 5) in 4 speed, or a type 9 if it's a 5 speed. As per 2.8 Capri.
There were apparently some late wedges with the 2.3 Cortina box, when type B stopped being available, but that's a rocket derivative (type 'E').
The type 9 5 speeder is also derived from the type 'E' box. Saying this for your parts ordering....

The 'B' box is a lot beefier than the 'E' or '9'

Right, having cleared that up.....

The tailshaft has a long sleeve bearing which is pressed in, and will need a gbox stripdown to change.
Most people just change the end seal, which can be levered out with a screwdriver, and a new one pressed in with a large socket or
piece of pipe (otherwise it's a real pain to keep it aligned right).
