Then testing an old Dyson pretty much to destruction (Note filters clog in 6min not 6months...)
Ahh - top tip - when I use an old dyson (or any cyclone/bagless) outside, I remove the filters! Yes it spits out some of the fine dust, but it still catches the bigger bits and also it sucks much better.

This weekend in for the MoT tomorrow then it will be fising the stuff they find - must adjust the handbrake first thing and also tweak a brake pad at the front. And check the lights all work...

Hopefully I'll get some driving done for a change.

This week, the doors have had plastic film added then the refurbed door pulls and door cards refitted. Also replaced the ignition amp and associated wiring loom.

Peeled off the old boot lid trim (didn't take much effort as gravity and time had done the hard yards for me) Edges are too far gone and a bit crispy but foam underneath was actually not bad which was a surprise. cleaned it, sanded lid and re-glued it for now but will need a proper job once all the other serious jobs have been ticked off.

i.e. fix whining gearbox, steering UJ play, new exhaust system, and cooling issues..

Well the UJ fix yesterday turned out to be a marathon involving the 15lb sledgehammer to extract the old UJ. Eventually it came out, I cleaned up the bearing cup holes and inserted the new UJ and gave both on that side a good greasing to boot.

Just when I thought I was done I checked the exhaust and there was another split in the rear pipe where it clouts the ground occasionally! I had had enough yesterday so I fixed that when I got back from work today. Welded on a piece of stainless then slapped on some exhaust paste.

Re-checked the front steering and it looks reasonable. So fingers crossed for the MoT tomorrow.

Going to swap out the coil. Maybe fit the SE spoiler. Then do some driving to see if I've fixed her. smile

First fix electrics going into the garage.

And found the huge leak is from the fuel pump not the attached pipe or clip.

Sounds a bit dangerous - electrics and leaky fuel....

It's not the weekend but I have the 12 days of christmas off, as usual, so it's not a work day.

I suspected that one of the front wheel bearings was a bit tight so I slackened it off a flat and it rotates a lot more smoothly/for longer. However this didn't get rid of the whirring noise.

Swept out the garage which looks a bit tidier now.

Founds that the full beam wasn't working which turned out to be the fuseboard terminal had come out, so reinserted that, then flattened the battery testing it! But it works.

Also the pod diode wires snapped off so resoldered and back in.

I have some diff oil on order in case the whirring is coming from that and it needs swapping out. Should be here tomorrow.

Has the shorter belt done the trick ?
Well, it's on, and it goes round and round, and the tensioner pulley is now at a respectable height.

Only problem is you can't get a Gates Powergrip belt in that size, so it's a matter of how long the Optibelt will last - I'll post again in 20,000 miles time ;^)
Well probably done about 15000 miles on the Optibelt and it's still running fine, so that looks like a good make to use for SX drivers.

I have noticed that I only changed the diff oil 18 months ago but the new stuff has turned up so I suppose it's worth a try for this whirring problem (clutching at straws). Incidentally Opie oils sell it for less than Castrol themselves, and don't charge for postage! And bunged in a free T-shirt!!

I've not been out to the garage for a while as I had electric tripping issues, now solved with armoured cable.

This weekends task was to get the engine started and run up to temp to check if the mods to stop the throttles sticking when hot worked.

Objective fully achieved which is great.

Also fitted some new flow matched 36lbs Bosch gen III injectors in place of the 30lbs Accel items, as I'm hoping the finer atomisation will help with the slow speed running.

Another successful day in the garage yesterday.

I have had a major stumbling block with the mixture burning in the inlet manifold at tickover and low revs. I had put this down to a variety of things like too much cam overlap / waste spark etc..
but finally resolved it and as usual it was a combination of things :

Base timing
Throttle body balance (bank to bank)
Ignition & fuel mapping
and remembering to turn off compensation when mapping..

Great news, can now progress to mapping other load sites on the driveway, rear wheels off, then hope to actually drive it on the road soon.

Good question.

The old girl has been off the road for a few years rolleyes and I think its a maybe but
more than likely I would use it as a shakedown run.. perhaps see you all at Rockingham.

At the end of last year I fixed the 'MOT' type issues.. wiring, indicators, headlight etc..so hopefully not too many new or repeat issues have appeared over winter but it is a TVR.

Next up complete mapping, off and on road.

Need to get an MOT and put in some road milage in different conditions like traffic after a blast .. will it be able to get rid of the heat ?

So many unknowns like clutch, radiator etc..

But ultimately I am hopeful and looking forward to being back on the road sometime soon.
