Resonable progress on the diff transplant, ratchets set to "do up" and the new diff is on the diff carrier (that was a fiddly job!)

Next the brakes go on, the handbrake calipers have been refurbed and greased.

Hopefully will get it back on the car tomorrow then sort out the new exhaust pipe. Flush and bleed the rear brakes. Set up and check handbrake operation.

Have made some good progress on the diff today.

managed to extricate the remaining end of the nipple without damaging the caliper and most of the caliper thread was intact, new nipple screws in well and tightens nicely.

All the brakes now in and wire locked (that was a pain - getting the wire on the bottom bolts) and the handbrake calipers on, and the ratchets both work too (for how long?)

Driveshafts attached, the bolts on the new diff were good enough, nuts torqued up. Driveshaft UJ's greased up.

Some rusty bits cleaned up and hammerited.

Just at the last moment noticed underneath the car that the fuel return hose is a little loose on the tank pipe, and there's evidence of some fuel leakage, probably explains (some of) my bad MPG.... One jubilee clip to nip up before the diff lift tomorrow.

Diff lifted into place and all 6 retaining bolts are through their respective holes most with nuts on.

It did take a bit of jiggling and persuading to line them up!

So all the heavy stuff is done, now just a bit more spannering and fitting the new exhaust pipe sections.

It's not the weekend but cracking on nevertheless yesterday and tonight.

Now we have the brakes connected up, handbrake seems better.

Rear brakes all flushed through and bled, it took a litre of brake fluid to get it coming through clear (and I had already pushed the pistons back in and jammed them in place).

Brakes now feel firm after pumping up.

Need to put in the handbrake split pins but otherwise all done there.

Next up - tighten propshaft bolts, torque up rear mounting a bit more, reconnect tie rods, do up shock absorbers, fettle and fit exhaust pipes.

The light is at the end of the tunnel!

Some more progress last night, got the shocks done up, and the rear diff cage bolts torqued up.
Propshaft next and then the exhaust and we should be mobile (after the wheels go on).

The diff has been full of oil for a week and no sign of leaks, which is a bonus.

More good progress today, all the mechanical bits fitted, just fettling the new exhaust pipe now (mainly this means whacking it with a club hammer so it clears various chassis parts).

I have re-welded the tail pipe to fit on, now it's just a matter of adding the clamps and the rear mounting and it should be ready to turn a wheel.tomorrow. Who-hoo! Bonus is that the tailpipe now won't stick out at a jaunty angle.

Front brake upgrade attempt number 3.

Refurbed - new inner seal and stainless pistons - a set of Granada mk 2 or 3 callipers today. New pads, rigid and flexi hoses ready too.

Cake Garage facilities being used tomorrow.

Few other jobs to do at the same time.

Trackday at Snetterton on Tuesday biggrin

Stripped the FSE fuel regulator on the 350i and cleared off a burgundy deposit off the seal face which was causing issues. Also fitted a new set of plugs. On the 390 jacked it up and checked gearbox and different oil levels - different has a small weep on the nose seal. Greased all UJS and adjusted the rear suspension height as there was a noticeable difference between rear wheels to arch gap.

Back on the road, good news is the exhaust sounds great, bad news is the whirring is still there.

As I hadn't had a go at the rear bearings yet I decided to open up and grease the offside rear.

I managed to break my breaker bar and bend a bar I had jammed in the UJ to stop the driveshaft from turning - that hub nut is going nowhere! Split pin back in then and I have fitted a grease nipple instead - see new thread. Greased up the bearing but no noticeable improvement to the whirring noise.

Front brakes done and upgraded to vented. The callipers I have uses larger pads so am keen to see an improvement once bedded in.

Hand brake fixed - pad material had fallen off.

Speedo cable had come out if the dial so some TVR yoga and fitted back in place.

Reverse light switch adjusted so the lights work.

Wheels given a quick clean and rotated.

One of the offtakes from the oil sandwich plates was leaking so nipped up. Time will tell if there are any more leaks.

One front wheel bearing changed.

Hi, I've been looking on this forum about rear wheel bearings as I may have to do mine at some stage, and a thought occurs - has the side you're doing got a left hand thread?
Sorry if on reading this the words 'grandmother' and 'eggs' spring to mind!
Bummer about the diff BTW.

I know what you mean, but no, this is the TVR wedge forum, not the Alfa forum!
That's one reason one side can undo and you find the wheel overtaking you.

Sorted a number of annoying jobs...

1. Oil Leak - Replaced *all* of the oil pump seals / gaskets + oil pressure light switch, changed the oil and made sure it's not overfilled (200+ miles no leak) smile

2. Sent my rusty JAG AFM adaptor bracket off for powdercoating

3. Repaired the bonnet strut that keeps parting company with it's end pin (crafty drilled hole + split pin)

4. Fitted a "Rclick" central locking kit

Control box

Extending the loom to fit the doors...

Circuit approximation

It's great no more mucking about to open the boot !!!!

Whooo hoo - assuming that's a good thing and you are shredding some rear tyres!

And - quite fitting - exactly 3000 posts since you started....
