Was going to have a run out on Saturday afternoon, but the battery was flat. Never did get around to buying a trickle charger... Stuck it on charge and ordered CTEK MXS 5.0 for delivery the next day. Run out yesterday (see fuel tank thread) and picked up the delivery on the way home. Now hooked up, so hopefully no flat batteries in the future!

MOT on Wednesday...

Anyone got any plans for the wedge at the weekend ?

I need to do a bit of fuel mapping, that should keep the neighbours happy.

Contemplating diff, box and sump oil change. Plus a dash to put into the hairdressers car!

With ref the 280i, got the passenger side fuel tank back in place earlier on and hopefully getting the engine in tomorrow. If so, will be connecting up all the hoses / attaching the radiator and new leccy fan over the weekend and attaching the fuel tank straps. If time allows will also get the air filter / AFM and fuel distributor all connected and attached. I see a busy one ahead.

MOT failure on Wednesday, so will be chasing down why the pods raise, but no dipped beam lights come on (flash works ok). Fog lights also not working. Fuses ok in both cases. Circuit diagram and multimeter are at the ready!

Probably the earth or power connection.

On my SEAC I found the passenger side pod has the shared feed and earth connectors.

Thanks Alan. I don't think it's a earth as the connection seems sound onto the n/s chassis member and the pods raise, side lights work and the flash works. But I will check everything.

Sat down with the wiring diagram today and it's either the master switch connections, the dim/dip/flash switch or the dipped beam relay. (or a broken connection somewhere), I reckon. I'm thinking one of the switches as the fog lights are not working and neither is the tell tale, so that circuit isn't being powered when the master switch is on. That circuit isn't dependant on the dipped beam relay.

All assuming my car is wired as per the diagram I have! The multimeter will tell all hopefully!

Well the wiring diagram I had was wrong! Pulled the dipped beam relay and checked that I had continuity where expected. All ok, so put it back and everything came to life - including the rear fogs!

Number plate light was a terminal come adrift and the headlamp flash wasn't actually working after all, but that was just a case of cleaning the terminals.

So she got some candles for her 30th Birthday today after all!

Well I wasn't going to do anything this weekend but I spotted a small chassis preserver (oil leak.)

It truned out to be one of the hoses into the banjo remote and the jubilee clip needed nipping up, only it was in a funny position and I couldn't tighten it up properly, so I loosened it right off, rotated it to a better position, then tightened it up.

All in all a useful half-hour spent.

I spent Saturday checking tdc is tdc. Not easy with the heads on. Looks to be about 2 degrees out. Which is close enough. Cleaned and checked plugs before attempting to set base timing on emerald which did not go well or as expected. Changed the timing values on the 1st two sites which improved things. Time ran out..as wifey had other plans for the rest of my weekend.

Spigot rings fitted to hubs as the OZ wheels was too big for the hub

Passenger side pod adjusted to fit nice and flush

While we was under the car we saw that the exhaust is rubbing on a half shaft and nearly through found that one exhaust hanger was missing and other one snapped right through luckily caught it before going right through exhaust so next week while having new shocks and a few other bits done at Taylor tvr more work for him
Saturday I am going to spray roll bar then when it gets back from taylor tvr wheels refurbished then that's it till winter as I just want to enjoy the car

Had a good day Saturday sorting a couple of long standing problems on the 200. The first was a starting problem that has plagued me for years. It had all the symptoms of a goosed starter motor or dead battery with a clicking starter solenoid. It started off as a problem just when the engine was warm (again pointing to a starter problem) but got worse to the point where it wouldn't start even when cold. Bought a brand new Bosch starter and fitted it last week, but this made the problem worse. After a couple of hours working on the issue it seems the voltage to the solenoid was not all it should have been. The problem was eventually traced to a faulty immobiliser relay. It now starts on the key.

Also noticed a leak from one of the expansion tank pipes. It turned out this had been catching on the throttle body bracket. Ground the bracket back and fitted a new piece of hose. This seems to have fixed another long standing issue with the water system not pressurising enough and then sucking in air when the engine is cooling down.
So a good days work.

Cheers Steve

Making some progress then! Are you going for standard shocks or an upgrade?
