I've travelled from Bradley Stoke (North Bristol) to Pontypridd nearly every week day for the past 3 months (and the same last year for a few months). Traffic is horrendous every evening, and the slightest accident causes queuing from the bridge to the tunnels - it's probably a once a week event. Heck, the Coca Cola truck turning up at Coryton Asda a year ago caused the worst traffic I've seen on the M4.

It would be no worse than that in all fairness.

Many people would be encouraged to use other routes in (such as the M50), which isn't possible for a Cardiff event.
I've been doing it a few times a week, on average, for over a decade now.

Rush hour traffic + event traffic would bring the whole of South Wales to a standstill.

The road infrastructure just cannot cope in the area - getting 100,000 or more people out of a circuit near Ebbw Vale without an M4 relief road and some serious work on the link to the M4 at Newport would create utter chaos.

(If I leave my house near Blackwood at 7am, I can be on the M4 before 7.30am. If I leave at 8am, I'll be lucky to get onto it by 9am, the links into the south east valleys are absolutely choked at busy times)

I don't leave until 8:50 (and take 50 mins to get to the office) as leaving any earlier takes over 1:30 and is just a waste of time. I do hit traffic coming home though as it's busy until about 7pm.

Wouldn't big race events like Moto GP be on a weekend though when there isn't a rush hour as such? Friday internationals cause bad traffic around Cardiff, but this would spread the load over other roads.

I'm not disagreeing with you by the way, we badly need a relief road for the M4, whatever that turns out to be, but I don't really see the circuit causing any worse traffic that we already have for the rugby.

On other news anyone seen the planned/ongoing work at pembrey to the main circuit and rallycross course good move in my eyes pembrey needs some money being spent on it.

Looking forward to driving the new layout, though I always quite enjoyed the old layout in that part of the track (I could stay pretty much flat in in 4th in the 7 the whole way through it).
