Coming home from work this evening, the blighters have been out and reduced the speed limit from 60 to 40mph. They have been putting up the new signs today it seems.

The limit used to be 60mph all the way from near the Thornhill Crematorium right up to the top and down into Caerphilly. They dropped it to 40mph from the Crematorium up to the New House hotel a year or so ago, even though there are no houses and only 1 junction on that route.

Now they've extended the 40mph zone all the way through the mountain.

How do they notify people about this so that you can object? A small A4 note hanging on an obscure lamp post that you are never going to see as you drive past probably.

Is it possible to object to this sort of nonsense?

What they should be doing is sign-posting the road properly !

How about some sharp-bend signs and cheverons on the really sharp bend at the bottom of the hill?
Or maybe a pair of Junction sign near the junction that is hard to see as you approach.

All too quickly do they drop the speed limit rathe than giving drivers the information that they need to drive safely.

This practice is all too common in S. Wales. We've seen this happen repeatedly in the Vale and as you say with no obvious notification. What makes it even worse is in a lot of cases it is done because the road surface is crumbling and pot-holed but by reducing the speed limit they can avoid the cost of road repairs and slow the traffic down even more than it is already.

Yes, technically. But no notice is ever taken of objections.

Ridiculous. Bloody council.

I overheard two Cardiff council workers talking about transport in Cardiff. Apparently the congestion is because there are too many cars and there is no point building more road capacity because it'll further increase the number of cars. Do the council not realise we live in a capitalist economy which requires perpetual growth? Of course there will be more cars.

I'd like to at least find out the excuse for why they did it. If there were major accidents on it that were attributed to speed fair enough but I don't think that is the case.

That's bad. If they are reducing speed limits just so that they don't have to repair the roads, that's well annoying.
Has anyone tried requesting the reasons for speed limit reductions ?
Ironically, there was an accident or something on the road last night as the police had closed it and a fire engine was in attendance. That's after the speed limit reduction.

Shame. I used to tank it over there when I used to live in Cardiff and work in Caerphilly!

You now have the opportunity to complain to your local councillors when they come knocking for your vote. Say they won't get your vote if they support it!

They're planning huge swathes of 20mph limits in Cardiff too, it's on my radar for when they come knocking. Suggest you all do too

They are going down in a lot of places. The Assembly micro manage from afar. The Councillors are scared of the gas and air shop in Cardiff so you will not get much milage out the door knockers. You will get "speed kills" thrown right back at you.

Your ire needs to be directed in at least two directions, the local council, who are scared of upsetting the funding they get. And the people that take a shed load of money in pay and expenses and do not seem to achieve much. The AM's.

Edit. I posted this some time ago.

Rather assumes there are councillors who don't want a reduction.

I would welcome the chanceto make my feeling known, but I haven't had any knock my door yet and the elections are only four days away!

Or assumes you will get a word in past the blockage in the ears. My choice in the council elections (Bridgend) are 2 labour, 2 welsh lib dem, 1 green and 2 cons.

I don't expect them to have road limits anywhere on the RADAR. My lot in charge at the moment are bringing in a new rubbish collection contract. We are going to get stiffed, they are employing a rubbish monitoring stasi that will inspect bags (only two black bags allowed every two weeks). We are told that we will not pay for the bin bag stasi, they raise their costs from fines imposed on the un lucky. This is the caliber of town and borough council. Speed limits? Pah.

Looks like you'll have to drive a bit more Caerphilly from now on.

Sure but nowhere to park a scamera van with a decent view of oncoming traffic and their limit has appeared to be putting an erratic "Slow down" sign down Blackbrook Road that is not working.

You talk about lack of buildings but you have the Steakhouse place, the Lisvane turning with cars trying to get out, the New House Hotel exit, on a bend, you have an overgrown layby on the way up, the hairpin at the top and the turning into Wenallt Road and where cars turn in and out of The Traveller's Rest, on a blind bend and dwellings in the dip and an obscured exit road on top by the Golf Club and then the turn down into Caerphilly where cars are trying to get out which has a busy Burger Bar.

Frankly, I live in Castle View (the existing 40 limit) and trying to get out of there is ridiculous, due to people constantly exceeding the 40 limit by a large margin.
