specifically the Cardiff West junction?

They have used the existing hard shoulder as a 'dedicated lane' for the junction (thereby making the M4 4-laned for that stretch of road) and made 'intermittent' new hard shoulders with "SOS only" written on them.

Seems like a reasonable idea to me, since there often seemed to be queues in lane 1.

Any other opinions?

Is that the Llantrisant turnoff? Good idea except for reducing the speed limit causing delays to everyone else. They'll soon have the speed detector van off that bridge in Pencoed at that loctaion.

It is the Llantrisant turn off and it does seem to be a good idea, hard to tell how much effect it is having as its half term, but I did not need to slow much at all last week which was the first week in operation.

Agree about the scamera, have been keeping an eye for this, but none so far, in fact to be fair I have not seen the Pencoed scamera at rush hour for some time now, hope it stays that way.

Anyone know if the 50 is likely to stay? Not that anyone took anyone took any notice this morning, average speed appears to be around 70ish.

The Scamera was there on one of the first days of the trial. It has been there before however, usually around midday.

I was about to be pedantic, and say that it's the Cardiff West rather than Llantrisant junction, but since I mostly travel east of the Llantrisant junction, I can't be sure if it's not both.

Maybe I should try driving into Cardiff on a Saturday to gauge whether the new lane is working efficiently.

Talking about Pencoed with regard to speed cameras etc. one Saturday a few weeks back, between Pencoed and Llantrisant there were three sets of either camera or traffic police. Seemed a bit like overkill to me!

It starts at the Llantrisant-m4 entrance east bound and continues then up the Cardiff West exit ramp.

Yes heard about this as well, basically lull the driver into a false sense of security then snap him at the next bridge

Of course it does!

I was thinking of it only as an extra exit to CW not what it actaully is Can't shift these preconceived ideas even when they're complete 5hite!

Think I saw them, 3 camera's on one bridge covering 3 lanes in one direction? There was a cup match in Cardiff I think so ANPR for security as well?

50 mph seems to have been lifted? Not that anyone took any notice.

Yes - now 70mph, was on local news. Although I agree that I don't think anyone actually did 50mph while that was the limit!

As I get on the M4 at Llantrisant most days, I used to see quite a lot of 'offenders' being pulled for speeding on this section. There has also been a dark green Peugeot Police car, unmarked of course, putting in a few appearances lately.
