Is this the one that is stirring up the massive protest (2 women on the BBC). Looks like one that might be worth spectating. Anyone know anything about it|?

It's the first stage rally in England being run on public roads which have been closed specifically for the purpose. There was a change in the law a year or so back to enable it, after a prolonged effort from the MSA. Protests are unsurprising... but it's all quite significant for UK motorsport. Hence the press coverage.

the articulate threats under the Essex live article don't really do the rally folks any favors in getting the inconvenienced residents on side tbh...

Fair point, but there isn't much that Chelmsford MC can do to stop stupid people making stupid comments in response to an article wherein equally daft comments are attributed to a NIMBY. I used to be involved in rallying back when many competitive night events were held on open public roads.
The RAC MSA required organising clubs to consult with all relevant authorities, including down to parish level, as well as leafleting householders directly on the route. I very much doubt that has changed.

The problem in making OTT comments which are then quoted by a journalist is any legitimate concerns there may be are likely to be dismissed as more froth and hot air by killjoys.

Opinions/attitudes become polarized and neither side benefits.

I saw the first illuminated sign warning of road closures for this event yesterday, and in place today. Ironically it was being towed behind a scamera van! No doubt Plod will be staking out the course hoping to catch the audience on their way to/from.
