Good morning everyone,

Following an enjoyable Spring Detailing Day, our own Car Detailing wise man has invited to join his autumn meet.
And so LowiePete's Autumn Detailing Meet will take place on Saturday 21st September.

I shall hand over to the man himself for Full Details smile

Hello Folks,

Invitation - Date, Time and Place

The 2nd of the 2019 Lowiepete Detailing Days is planned for Saturday 21st September.
The meeting venue is: The Fighting Cocks PH in Lowestoft, NR33 0NA

The meeting time will be 09:00 for prompt before a 09:30hrs departures. The pub is
only the gathering place, so don't be late! If you have previously attended, please
also head to meet Darren at the pub rather than going straight to the unit. This
allows for any last-minute change of plans. All going well, the "reveal" will take
place at around 4pm.

What's On?

Being that we are no longer weather dependent I can increase the max. limit of
attendees from 10 to at least 15. If there are enough experienced detailers to
support it, that limit could be extended to 20. Please indicate this with (XP)
as you register.

As each Detailing Day hovers into view, so you guys up the ante for me! For this
meet there will be the usual Q car to work upon - at time of writing I'm still
looking for a suitable candidate - so the basics can be demonstrated on that with
plenty of hands-on opportunities. Previous gatherings have laid down quite a
challenge with their results, so there's plenty to aim at!

For the more experienced, well, there's a treat in store. For the first part of
the day we'll have a pretty special car in to discuss "future maintenance". For
anyone who owns a bit of a treasured steed and is unsure on what steps to take
next in its paint protection regime, you could find this first part of the day
quite valuable. Whether any work is carried out on this car on the day really
depends upon the owner and, of course, the measured results. For obvious reasons
it won't be available for attendees to work upon.

Instead, I have arranged for a previous Q car to return where you will be able
to do some machine polishing, under guidance from Darren and Jordan. If you own
a machine and pads, please bring these with you. If time allows, the culmination
of the day will be discussion of (pros, cons and pitfalls) and a possible demo
application of a ceramic coating to parts of this car.

Provisioning

We'll be providing hot drinks, but you will need to bring your own packed lunch.

Attendees Lists

The invitation to this meet is also to members of other Forums, so preference will
be given to those who register first, should the limits be reached. There will be
a safety notice issued closer to the time.

For this meet, you have the option of attaching your name to one of two lists. For
the intro stages there will be 10 spaces maximum, unless there are helpers willing
to allow expansion. For the more advanced aspects there will be a second list with
just 6 spaces available.

Goodies & Free Prize Draw

As ever I'll be doing my best to ensure that no-one goes away empty-handed, so I'm
assembling a decent goodie-bag for everyone to take home. So far, there's the usual
6 floz. bottle of ONR supplied by OPT in Holland. Thanks to an intro through County
Detailing Supplies, there will also be some 15ml samples of Vonixx Wax for you to
try. Vonixx are a new brand in the UK and their reputation gives new meaning to the
term "Brazilian Wax" so it's quite a coup to obtain these. They will be reserved for
the first 8 names to register below.

In the prize draw, which is always free, there'll be other detailers tools, including a
clay cloth for you to enjoy winning.

Registration

Please register by adding your name to one list, below...
Show (DW)(PH)(RT) for Forum source.
Show (XP) for experienced and willing to be a guide

Hello Folks,

At the present moment I'm looking for a Q car - something with a bit of
neglect that has the potential to look good. The last meet was karma for
a guy who does 50+ mile bike-rides for charity, so if there can be a good
cause attachment, so much the better.

There is no charge for the "service" though it is entirely at the owner's
risk. He or she should also be able to turn up at around 4pm for the
car's reveal.

Seems like we might need some attendees - apparently there are 20
people on FB expressing an interest in coming. It makes life so much
easier if I can have an early indication of who is coming, and it helps
me boost the goodie-bags too!

Regards,
Steve

Safety Notice - PPE Requirements
Lowiepete's Detailing Day 21 September 2019

While the majority of this meet will be around benign potions and methods,
if we are to do more than just talk about what are essentially "professional"
practices, then we do need everyone to stay safe. By attending this event it
is incumbent upon you to not put yourself or anyone else at risk. You _will_
need to bring the following items with you, and you'll be required to wear
them when instructed, else stay well clear of that work area until that demo
is concluded.

Please bring...
  • protective eyewear
  • nitrile gloves (more than one pair)
  • a face mask to FFP3 standards (disposable is fine)
Also, please be aware that some cleaning potions would not qualify as your
favourite after-shave, so old clothing or even an apron to put over your knees
while we're cleaning wheels might be a good plan.

I do want everyone to enjoy their day. We're there to share experiences with
each other, not to test ambulance response times. Your collaboration is much
appreciated. Thanks.

Regards,
Steve

Hello Folks,

This event is still going ahead although it raises a question over whether
or not there'll be another. Making it viable for visitors gets more difficult
if I cannot compensate them with freebies of some value to take home.
There aren't many events that are free to attend where the free prize
draw can gather at least the first 10 visitors a prize worth a minimum
of a tenner and up to a ton!

Suppliers of these samples / prizes trust me upon my reputation, but this
naturally does need active participants so that the deal works both ways.
The goodie-bag contents for this meet is not at all bad, though there won't
be the usual free draw at this meet.

Even though the day is free to attend, you will need your register
your interest either directly with Darren on Facebook or by email, or on this
thread before 7pm on Friday 20th September. The pub is only the gathering place.
Do not just turn up on the day without adding your name. If there are no
names on his list, Darren will not need to visit the pub car park.

There are apparently 25 people on Facebook who have indicated an interest.
The weather forecast bodes well so there'll be no restrictions on our choice
of activities; indoors or out. If there are no new people, then the day will be
very usefully spent product testing. The car paint assessment demo will still
take place but start later, at around 1:30pm

Regards,
Steve

Hello Folks,

Just a quick note to say thanks to the guys who came to Lowestoft
yesterday and once again rose to the challenge of a car with quite
neglected paint. Karl, the owner wasn't able to attend for the reveal
but there's no question he'll be delighted with what greets him on
Monday morning.

I'll let the others talk about their experiences of the day and how they
tackled the Laguna. I was thrilled to introduce Roy Dowding who
briefly came along with his stunning Gordon Keeble. We also gave
Haydon a brief visit in his detailing studio just across the way
which probably provided an eye-opener over how passionate these
guys are about their craft.

In the goodie-bag was a small selection, yes more than a couple, of
liquid and paste waxes from a new supplier from Brazil, along with
a phial showing what pure Brazilian Carnauba Wax really looks like.
It was one of their waxes that I used for my demo and I think most
were quite impressed with the ease of application and buffing-off.
Yes, that's right, this bloke stood up and gave a shortish lecture on
his conclusions after many experiments on how to properly and very
successfully apply wax to paint - the shock of it!

For the future the LDDs will continue to be held bi-annually, the next
one will be on the 18th April 2020, but with a core group of around
half a dozen we'll be taking a slightly different approach over giving
it publicity. As the collective experience of the group grows, so, I
hope the challenges will grow too. Here's to the next one, will we
see you there?

Regards,
Steve
