Since pestering you all about his some months ago a friend in NZ wants me to look into getting them a 4x4. I've never done it before but are there customs fees and what's the charge for a WOF, does my friend need to get the WOF done as it lands or do you get a week or so to do it?

Again thanks for all your advice.
Getting a WOF is the easy bit....start with this website http://www.nzta.govt.nz/vehicle/importing/
There are many rules depending on the type/age of car..(or 4x4 in your case).
Along with the rule are all the various fees that may apply....including GST if you are not importing as an immigrant.
Lots of info is already written about imports to NZ..so I am not going to repeat again.
Good luck.

I just recently found a new hassle with regards to brake pedal steel type. My bias pedal box pedal was made from 6mm thick plate but someone simewhere decided in nZ they have to be 8mm... doh!!

probably an erroneous extension of the #8 wire principle

Anyway after a long wait it's not tooo far off being shipped, just the body work to complete. Here are a couple of pics, chassis and exhaust (the best looking bits). More to follow.

I don't know how difficult it is to organise, or whether the co's concerned would do it, but I have 6 to 8 containers a year arrive from UK all with space.
They are packed in the Midlands (Nottingham area) and are opened in Hamilton at MAF approved site.
Have 3 arriving next week, obv too late but another 40' is being packed in a couple of weeks which will have some space.

Thanks very much, I've got the shipping sorted now, the hardest part will be getting it from the port to my place. It's going to all be in one very big box.

Just a warning if you are sharing container space, I was waiting for one of mine to be opened today and was watching another being opened. Agricultural equipment and small machinery, nothing tied down for the journey from UK, it was chaos.

Sorry to interrupt.

Have been following up the advice issued on this thread as I'm having major trouble shipping 2 bike fairings to Invercargill. The problem is that the boxes are huge but light and the companies that have responded to the bids that I have instigated on Uship and Anyvan either drop out or appear to have a very poor reputation. I also don't have access to a van this side to deliver to a port/dock and I don't want the recipient on the other side going through the hassle of driving up to the North Island....

It's becoming a massive headache

What do you class as huge ?
Fairings normally come apart don't they ? Or is it something special (Bimota one piece) ?

I would have thought there are more containers arriving in Christchurch, SI than anywhere else in NZ at present but even if it has to go to NI then the cost of internal freight is pretty reasonable.

Surely if someone wants the items they will pay the shipping.

3 boxes
2 which are dimensions 114x58x58 and 14/13 kg respectively
1 box 46x43x34 and 10 kg

I'm getting quotes for about £550 +

The fairings don't come apart and are for a 1098 (race fairings)

I think that's pretty reasonable personally, having just sent an almost identical size/weight package (114x58x58) Hamilton to Invercargill for $220 (110quid).

There is obviously a reason the buyer wants them, either cheaper than whats made here, better quality or both. If they want them $1000 freight shouldn't stop them.

That is interesting as I was thinking of getting them picked up from Christchurch Port and dropped off to Invercargill. Worldwide Shipping and Airfreight Ltd quoted me £460 door to door so that is looking better by the minute.
