I've received a couple of letters regarding my taxes fonc and hab. In fact, the taxe d'hab letter is about my tv license, rather the the taxe itself. Did I read that they're abolishing the taxe d'hab?

Essentially, the letters say that payment will be taken from my accout 10 days after the bill date, bla bla bla.

Except that I've been paying both these taxes for fourteen years, in exactly the same manner.

Does anyone have any idea why I've received the letters?

I think they are saying that all though the habitation tax will be no more ,they will still take the tv license bit of it from you're bank.

Thank you. I wondered if that was the case, but don't know if my departement (87) has actually stopped the taxe d'hab.

Bit annoying that they just took the whole lot (hab, fonc and tv licence; €1,000 or so) in the last month or so... frown

I was in 87 until we sold last August and only paid the TV in 2018 and 2019 (no Taxe D'Habitation).

I'm not resident, so I know I have to pay more than those that are, but not sure what the current policy is.

I don't want to pay them monthly. That wasn't my question. But thank you. smile

Taxe d'habitation isn't being abolished.

It applies to all non residents and the threshold has now changed to:

Couples without children with an income of less than €48,000.
Couples with a child or children who earn less than €54,000.
Single individuals with an income of less than €30,000

As for the payment details, then I find the tax office to be akin to voodoo. Never knowing what is coming and going and when. HOwever much better than social security, which is a black art

I understood that it's been phasing out for residents since 2018

Yes, I had a letter from impots in 2018 saying that due to the nice M Macron I wouldn't have to pay it anymore. Not sure how or why we were singled out but friends and neighbours were still having to pay! As far as I could tell our incomes were slightly over the threshold as well but not by much, always honest in income declarations too.

No, just often reported like that as for 80% of people it is being phased out. The above is for 2020.

The above are the thresholds, however the formula is more complicated than that. There are other considerations as well.

Our taxe d'habitation is down to €35 for the whole year for 2020 without the TV licence bit
