The blue ragtop in the first photo - is that a late 30's Buick - saw that for the first time Saturday (it must have been returning from the Hare meeting) it turned in to a close just up the road from me - anyone know who the owner is?
owned by a chap called Justin and his dad, live in Hornchurch.Wouldn't agree that this meet has Run it's course........ and i think the variety has been the making of it
If the Police want to make a point of visiting or hiding round the corner behind a bush that's fine with me as i arrive as i leave....... without feeling the need to showboat
Long live The Hare Breakfast Club

This. There was a bit of "showboating" at the meetings I attended last year but this was toned down a lot after one or two comments from locals were received and the message got out in the car park. There was also at least one occassion when the Police hid round the corner until the meet was in full swing and then came along handing out parking tickets rather than asking people to move their cars so any chance of goodwill was lost there and then.
The meet will continue and will be enjoyable and I am sure the attendees will adapt and ensure incidents such as the one mentioned here do not happen again. The pub owner deserves our continued support for putting on this meet.

I left before the incident but a real shame to hear that happened. The pub is situated on a bit of a horrible bend though. Reminds me of the bike meetings I used to go to 15 years ago at the White Bear near Ongar. Same blind bend with people showboating as they left or turning around up the road to showboat back past. Pretty sure there were quite a few accidents there that closed that one down in the end??
Anyways, hope this one goes on in the future.

I use to go to the Bear and the Hare has a similar bend to it, and like the Hare the Bear had two exit points on the bend too, making it even more dangerous.Anyways, hope this one goes on in the future.

I've been going since it started in Spring of last year and have spoken to the owner on a number of occasions, including Saturday lunchtime after the incident. I hope via this thread and 'the word going round' that all will tone it down and ensure that this continues, I'd hate to think it's ruined by a few.
This especially applies to the Lamborghini employee, whilst I won't deny it's lovely to see it's a disaster waiting to happen.

Glad I'm not the only one to notice that. Last month we had a laugh at the kiddy seat in it, I then noticed him drive out with kid in seat and three or four year old daughter standing up behind the passenger seat. He did it again this month!Bl**dy unbelievable, what an idiot. Presumably invalidating the insurance, you won't often hear this on PH but I hope he gets nicked and they throw the book at him, pr*t.

Thanks for that - 20 years I've lived in my road and I saw it for the first time turning in to a close 1/4 mile down the road from me for the first time! - does he get on here?Edited by roscobbc on Thursday 6th September 16:52

Many years before the bike meets at the White Bear (long since closed) we used to cruise out there every Sunday night with the original Eastern Cruisers - and yes, we eventually made ourselves 'unwelcome' due to the odd individual causing some kind of problem (and I have to say a few other pubs too!) - it was par for the course with a car club. Naturally some 30 odd years later we are so well behaved ('cough, cough')I've been going since it started in Spring of last year and have spoken to the owner on a number of occasions, including Saturday lunchtime after the incident. He's also a regular at the Lotus meets with his Blue Elise which you might have seen about locally. That's usually at the Hare in lieu of the Buick.
I used to run the PCGB Essex meet at the White Bear in the last century. It coincided with the bikers' meet and sadly one evening the inevitable happened and a biker lost his life wheeling up the road. The police presence in the area after that was very heavy and killed some of the more harmless fun.
I have noticed more showboating at the Hare recently...my first thought has always been for the mechanical damage done to cold engines as the driver guns his P & J!!!

If people want to "gun" their cars with cold engines that's their choice.
I have a little too much mechanical sympathy myself.
I'm far more worried about the showboater losing control of their car while showing off and having an "accident" or worse still hitting or getting hit by other passing traffic as they exit onto the blind bend.
