Well no ticket so guess I was lucky, or marginally within the tolerance level?? It'll probably drop on the doormat today now...

Scamera van still has a habit of sitting in the lay by just around the bend after the camera (going out of Maidstone) so strongly advise not just slowing for the camera.
It also occasionally sits just over the brow of the hill, just before the limit changes to NSL.
Sneakiest trap I've seen across most of UK...just what Cletus and Roskoe used to do on Dukes of Hazzard in the eighties!

The sad individual that parks his scamera van here and down behind the large bush by The Three Squirrels has some serious personality issues....unless he's just dogging I guess?!
Write a letter to the partnership asking how many fatal accidents have been on that stretch as they are just supposed to be used in areas that have a dangerous history. OK nothing will change but it will piss them off as they will have to respond.
Maybe a letter to the KM too wont hurt.

Hmmm supposedly but then, they had cameras on brand new roads the day they opened. Wonder if some workers died or had a bed accident when they were building it.

There's been two fatal accidents just down the road from us in three months.

Reply from KMSCP this morning questioning location of scamera van under NSL signage, grass verge, A249 northbound at top of Detling Hill........ I suggested the partnership might be better servicing Kent residents by lobbying for the many 'gaps/crossing points' on this stretch to be closed off. Of course that won't bring in any fines, despite potentially saving lives.....

Our Project Manager Anne-Marie Penny is currently reviewing this site (A249 northbound) and amendments are possible. We risk assess all camera site locations, however we are aware of potential issues at this site, and it is one of the factors influencing decisions around the site. We are also aware of the potential issues around speed / junctions along this stretch of road.

Dare we hope for a reasonable response that actually uses scameras in the way we're told they should be?

They will probably lower the NSL to 40 mph all the way along the 249 and then make more money from the scamera van......

There are no average speed cameras on Detling hill. Just the two fixed cameras and the mobile van that sits at the crest on the northbound side (up).

I see they've extended the 50mph zone on the southbound side all the way down to the M20 roundabout.

There are Anpr cameras both sides but that's for monitoring traffic not making money.

They did advertise as average cameras and even had signs showing this. They had a new camera at the top by the showground (Yellow, specs style) and a camera before the layby at the bottom.

They're gone now but they definitely looked like SPECS cameras and definitely showed on WAZE and google maps.

Shame they made it all 50 from the m20 roundabout off. Last time I went up there I was literally about to put my foot down.

Same coming back down the other way l, although in fairness that 50 to 70 upto the m20 roundabout was lethal.

There’s signs for average cameras, but the cameras do not exist. Only the two originals. One of which is faced the wrong way

West Malling bypass money generators.

Camera van sometimes on the bridge raising revenue as people come up the bypass towards KH. They often lurk on the lower section hidden around the fast bend as you go downhill.

But `sneaky winner` is the one the hides in a layby as you enter into KH. Dual carriageway and 30 mph. Must be like a Turkey shoot....cha-ching....
