Could anyone recommend me a firm to provide a drain clearance service in the Great Dunmow / Chelmsford area please? It's rainwater drains but they are backing up so are presumably blocked with leaves and silt. I've never had to use this type of service before so have no experience to go on.

Having watched Watchdog highlight the cowboys on this industry, almost all blockages can be quickly resolved by rodding alone. No need for expensive / complicated techniques. Most good firms use cameras to prove to you where the blockage is.

You could try the Yellow Pages and check review sites.

Thanks, and it's a fair point. I think I may have found someone now anyway, but as ever time will tell.

South of the river in Kent and had a long outflow pipe problems a couple of times as very flat outflow pipe as its uphill to main drains in road. Rodding works most of time but if you have to call someone the way they clear drains can be different.

Last time much better as they had long flexible hose which used water jets to propel itself up/along the drain to problem about 12 metres away from manhole & then cleared it very quickly (Jettingservicesdirect - don't think they over essex). A few years earlier a different company just blasted away using a large jetwash type lance - worked but messy!
