Buying a car in Texas and bringing it back to NY

So, looking to get my first car, i live in NY and seen a car id be interested in in Texas (slightly ashamed to say im not going yank but German with an Audi S5) and its a private sale.
Thing is, as plates stay with the person, and i have no plates, how do i drive it back?
Ive tried googling and the DMV site seems to just answer every question but the one i have, getting temporay plates until i get the car back to NY and register it there.

I think that the best thing to do is to go to the DMV and explain your situation. If it was Michigan where I live I would ask for a 30 day temporary plate which I would need proof of insurance for and some sort of letter from the owner saying you are going to buy the car plus a copy of the title.
You still need to verify that the car is everything that the seller claims so I would limit the liability to insurance and the plate. When you buy the car then you can register the car and pay sales tax.
It might be easier to buy the car in your state.

Such a shame, I really can't get my head around how almost America is in its bureaucracy, how can a simple transaction such as buying a secondhand car be such a palaver I don't know.
Still, it is what it is, time to succumb and buy from a dealer I guess, shame, I was looking forward to the road trip!

Most people would just get it shipped (tagless)

Complete the process at Texas DMV, drive home.
Texas title in your name with Texas tags.
At your own convenience go to your local DMV re-title and get NY tags.
There is no second Sales tax due, assuming you paid ST in Texas.

I've done this Texas to NJ.

I would check the weather....currently a little damp in places.
