Mates, I'm in Calgary next week for a couple of days, enroute to Kamloops and Sun Peaks for a week's skiing. Any recommendations for a good steak house or other interesting places to eat ? Any must see or do, car related or not, stuff in the city ?

Not been to Calgary before, so any tips welcome !

Keep warm. It is shockingly cold there currently. Wed, the, Friday next week will be -14c daytime. It may be sunny but people are not outside doing much. Get to a hockey match just for the atmosphere and 'show' regardless of who is playing. One 18 Empire for whiskey, Modern Steak or the Vintage Chophouse for steaks. The Winebar Kensington is good for wines. The Guild and the River Cafe are also worth checking out.

If the sun's out minus 14 isn't that cold !! Second a hockey game(Calgary Flames) , and if you want touristy book dinner up the tower .Failing that plenty of decent places downtown .

Thanks fellas, hockey sounds great, Flames v. Anaheim next Friday... I'll be there !... Then probably to Modern Steak.... That's my activities sorted.

Thought it looked warm at the moment, -3 degrees, -14 though is a bit different....

Beer Revolution, National and Craft (I fell in love when this place opened!) are worth checking out for beers. Divino on 8th Ave for awesome wine and cheese. River Cafe is another favourite but that's on your list already.

Oh, and it's a dry cold there, so whilst the minus temperatures look horrific, it's manageable. I walked to work in all weather, and admittedly -20C and below took a bit of thinking, but -10C and warmer were fine. No exposed skin though!
