Is it perhaps to allow the lorries to (almost) legally drive on their 90kmh limiter?

Had a special treat tonight though!

I was on the A3 Southbound and the gantries said the M3 J2 to J4a was closed - but that should have been OK as I stayed on the A3 aiming for the A31!

Got past Guildford on the A3, but the slip-road to the A31 was closed? WTF are the "authorities" (AKA W*nkers) doing, given that the M3 Southbound was already shut?

Oh well, headed to the Godalming/Puttenham junction to join the A31 there - only to find that was also closed! Planning, what is that? laugh An alien concept in this part of the world obviously!

Luckily I know the area pretty well so I went through Wanborough and Ash to get onto the A331 which was actually open!!

Haha, the meddlers missed that one! I hope one of the road planning people actually gets to drive a car without an instructor one day - just to take part in the misery they inflict on the rest of us on a daily basis - F*cking clueless Tw*ts!

Not that long ago, when the M3 overnight closure was on, they also decided to resurface the road by the "mongolian" or "American Golf" roundabout on the A30, it caused absolute chaos that night, as that was the diversion route. The Highways lot didn't seem to care when we raised it with them.
I can't wait for the chaos that is going to start when the meadows gets its make over, think I might move away for a year

To be fair the A31 is emergency works due to the road melting in the heat on weds.
Not a lot can be done about that one.....

Friday is due to be the last day on the A31 depending on weather.

Thanks, that will indeed be a special treat!

I think I will just stay at home - and it will never be done in a year!

Based on the M3 experience (and the Broadmoor roundabout on the A3095) I'd reckon on the best part of a decade (assuming a tail-wind)!

You can tell a person's age by how they refer to that junction. I call it "The Jolly Farmer" roundabout.

They're getting a bit ahead of themselves, aren't they?

what will the speed limit be during normal running, ie : no incidents will it still be 50, or will it be back up to 70?

Smart motorways shouldn't operate at restricted speeds during normal running.

There was some discussion a while back that some sections of smart m'way, including the M3, would have a 60 limit, but I understand that idea was shelved.

Hmmm, are there permanent 60 sections on those now then?

I better not go too far North or my blood will start boiling...

It will be back at 70mph. However, when it reopens, a 60 limit will be applied whilst the final tweaks are completed.

Final tweaks? How long are they expected to take, whatever they are?

Yes, Jolly Farmer roundabout for me too! (But then I'm old)!

I always smile when I go through Bagshot on the A30 - what was Pantiles is now a Sunrise care home! Time gets all of us in the end!

I hope you are right, but I really doubt it!

I go from the M3 to the M25 at least once a week and in the last 6 years the one and only time the M25 had the NSL in force was when the gantries had broken down!

I don't ever expect the M3 between J2 and J4a to have a 70 limit - unless those gantries break as well! (But I would love to be proven wrong)!

According to the HA site, there are no planned works on 1st, 2nd or 3rd of July.
That tells me it will all be done by tomorrow?
