I came past that a bit later and once the lane closure was in place lanes 2-4 were opened again.
I have a funny feeling HE are employing some kind of new policy where they won't leave their vehicles or walk on a carriageway unless all traffic has been stopped.

If that Pecker had come bouncing through your screen you would be in the st.
Looked like the drawbar frame had parted company with the trailer, one axle broken off as well.

Not sure if the driver had lost it or someone had hit it.

And they're still not finished!
M3 to M25 s/b slip closed tonight.
I guess five years just wasn't long enough to include a bit of resurfacing.

And still it goes on.....
A repeat of the 50 - Queue Ahead followed by 40 - Queue Ahead followed by NSL.
Same three gantries, same time of day, same lack of traffic.

Got to laugh at the photo that shows a Jeep crossing solid white lines.

I was reading about the "Smart" scheme for the M4 from J3 to J12 yesterday - it seems the plans will go ahead with no Emergency Refuge Areas! eek

Maybe those of us using the M3 got lucky - ish. laugh

Well at least we're still here for now.

Coming home last night at around 11pm southbound on the M3, very little traffic and speed reduction to 60 for salt spreading, which was annoying enough, but then the next gantry had 40 indicated along with the message "camera flash test", on an empty motorway when I and everyone else was keen to get home.

I have no idea what that meant, did they want people to go through at normal speed to just "test" or was it to fine? Either way, I decided best to reduce speed down to 40ish.

Salt Spreading - this has to be a joke. I was out walking the dogs at about that time and had tee shirt on.
No wonder the salt store runs out when we get a proper dose of winter.

As for the "Flash Test" if its anything like my PC could be Adobe update smile

Meh. I came back from Essex last night, and rather than bother with stupid variable limits and phantom incidents I braved the equally stupid "junction improvements" at the M25/A30 junction. It feels like a shorter route on the A30/A325 too, and I get home a lot less stressed because all the lemmings are following their Satnavs onto the M3.

The camera at that gantry was being calibrated.

You'd thijnk with modern electronics it would be possible to create a unit that maintained its tolerance and didn't drift. It's not like it's based on valves!

On Thursday one of my co workers was double flashed by a camera between J2-J3. And in the NP&L someone reported that they had been sent a NIP by the Surrey Police going past a camera on the M3 for 100+

I was coming down that stretch on Saturday night at about midnight, doing a steady 80mph. In my rear view mirror I could see two cars in the outside lanes approaching, I would say at over 90mph if not more, and the camera on the gantry flashed. The second car following slammed the anchors on and drove the rest of the way at a more sedate speed hehe

Some of the cameras have previously been calibrated and are working. They are working their way through the cameras.

Thanks, what speed are they calibrated at? wink More seriously, they drop the speed to just 40mph on that empty motorway, would you get a fine in the post if you exceeded that during the calibration phase? Would seem very unfair but I guess cameras don't discriminate.

Hang on....this project was declared "Complete" in June last year.
Why are they still fking about with this mysterious "calibration"?

Please don't make the mistake of thinking the M3 exists as a usable traffic route. Oh no.
It's there so Balfour Beatty, Highways England, Colas Traffic Management and all the other passengers on the gravy train can piss about with testing, drawn out "upgrades", calibration, more testing, more calibration and some testing.
Your journey home isn't bottom of their list.
It isn't even on their list.
