Gentlemen,

Looking for a reasonable place for a proper sit down lunch nr Richmond on the Saturday of the forthcoming England/Samoa rugby international.

We've got tickets for the game and would want to walk (stagger?) to the stadium after the meal, so suggestions for 30 mins or so walking distance if possible.

The area will be busy but we'll be booking ahead.

Reasonable budget for the meal so definitely not McDonalds! (Actually thought about the River Cafe but travel logistics more tricky for that venue).

Pretty much anything on Church St in Twickenham, the White Swan on the riverside is also good for a drink, not sure about the food. That will be busy though. The Crown close to Orleans Park is a decent pub with a good menu. Further out, i.e. Richmond, On the Kew Rd you have Rock and Rose for the swanky restaurant / cocktail option or the Shaftesbury if its more pub food you're after. Lots of restaurants in Richmond, most of them good or decent. Just about 30 mins stomp down the A316 to the stadium, or free (?) shuttle bus usually runs from the A316 opposite the leisure centre.

Carluccios near Richmond Station works well as the dedicated direct bus service to the ground is just round the corner

Another vote for Rock and Rose. Quite blingy if you like that sort of thing (I do)

Alternatively in the town centre you have Beunos Aires Argentinian steak house which is excellent.

Also check out The Royal Oak and Le Baron Brasserie on Richmond Road, just past Church Street.

Rock and Rose was my wife's favourite restaurant back when we lived in Ealing.

For match days, we often head to the Kings Head in Teddington - http://kingsheadteddington.com/ - really like the food there, although might already be fully booked.

I've only just noticed there's a takeaway called E-wok. I shall have to get something there.

Don Fernando's just by Richmond Station does a fixed tapas Rugby lunch which I have found perfectly satisfactory for years. By the time you've walked to the ground, and digested a bit, there's enough space left for several pints and a pasty.
