Romantic restaurant recommendation nr Basingstoke?

19th wedding anniversary coming up and I've been told to book somewhere nice for evening meal (week day)
Struggling to find somewhere that we've not been before that does nice food and a bit more cosy than an open plan restaurant.
Have done L'orlatan, back rat, chesil rectory, the bugle, JSW, Fox at North Waltham, Sun at Dummer, Wellington Arms at Baughurst etc.
Happy to try country pubs but they seem to change quality pretty rapidly so not sure what's good or not at the moment.
We're in Basingstoke but will travel up to 30 miles ish for a good recommendation.

L'Ortolan, michelin star place in a lovely old mansion, more towards Reading than Basingstoke. Ate there for my girlfriend's birthday and enjoyed the food, service and generally the whole experience very much indeed. It'll hit your wallet quite hard but does that matter when it's for a loved one? (-:

Never been to L'Ortolan although I know it had a good reputation.
I heard a rumour a few years ago that it was up for sale.
A change of ownership can sometimes be a real test.
Don't know if it happened though. Maybe not if it still has a Michelin star.

I’ve been to l’ortolan a few times but find that kind of place a little too “high Class” to feel romantic. It’s a good place to enjoy perfect food and/or to show off.
Personally I much prefer Ruschetta in Wokingham. It’s a very good Italian and we all know how good Italians are with the whole romance thing.
I don’t think there is a lot within Basingstoke itself.

Check out https://www.viamichelin.com/web/Restaurants - I've used it for 10 years and never once gone somewhere that's listed in there and had a bad meal.
Given where you've been already, I'd recommend:
Pot Kiln, Frilsham - Cosy pub feel, great game
Beehive at White Waltham - been for lunch a couple of times and both were really good
Vineyard at Stockcross - great wine list. Years ago when they had 2 Michelin stars, I had a poor experience, but now they've changed hands and are bit less high falutin', they've been really good
Harrow at Little Bedwyn - bit more expensive and fancier food but not too stuffy

I would imagine Bray must just about be within 30ish miles of Basingstoke.
If so there's the Waterside Inn founded by the Roux brothers or Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck, so long as you don't need a table too soon!
Failing that you could try the Hind's Head (also Heston's) - it's much easier to get a table and is still a great experience, but a bit less pretentious (which is probably a good thing IMHO) and also more sensibly priced.

I ate at the Vineyard weekend before last and it was very good, still has the amazing wine list!. Also tried the Harrow last Year and food was very good but found the menu choice somewhat restrictive and a rather snotty attitude ie don't/ won't sell Prosecco only ChampagneHarrow at Little Bedwyn - bit more expensive and fancier food but not too stuffy

Except for the massive drinks bills !! Maybe I'm old fashioned, I guess, but 3 alcoholic drinks ( G&T, vodka and orange, bottle of beer) and a coke at £30 started to bring on light headedness , last week.
