Crash site is just past what used to be the Fox pub back in the day, more recently Nakong Thai, now demolished for new home site. Car is pointing towards Reading. Just outside the 40 limit for the junctions I think. It's basically a straight road so quite impressive to run out of talent there, assuming no other foul play. It used to be a B road, but go up-classified to A road. It's just my personal opinion that it's more suited to being classified as a B road, due to its narrowness and the amount of bends. Makes a psychological difference to the way people drive on it, I'd speculate. I'm no speed limit fundamentalist, but 30 past the Fox junction and 40 on the rest of it between the Pack Saddle and the Oratory school would be better I think.
Shows how rubbish my observational skills are - or maybe I was too busy concentrating on keeping my 7 firmly on the tarmac. I had a nice run through that section. Traffic was light so I could tootle along at a reasonable (but legal - of course) pace. I visit a client in Wallingford every few months and use the 7 to get there if the weather is nice.
Saw this yesterday. How they managed it on a straight bit of road is quite impressive. The bit between cav and cane end is fun, no one should be struggling to do the 50 limit there - i don't understand why there are so many accidents. Sadly i guess the speed limits will just come down again

I’d agree on the deer theory. I’ve been driving the 13 bends of death regularly for 23 years and they’ve be resurfaced, marked and re-shaped so much they’re more like the 11 curves of mild discomfort these days. At this point you’ve got to be drunk, doing twice the speed limit, suffer major mechanical failure or be surprised by some chunky wildlife to find yourself that far up a tree.
