What's Chessington like to live in? Advice please.

Contemplating a move to Chessington area.

Any opinions on what it's like to live in that area?

Any recommendations or advice?

Handy for getting out of London to the North Downs countryside...

I think the answer is 'variable'. and depends what matters to you. Shopping? Schools? Commuting? Huge garden? Garage? Me, i prefer the more central part of Kingston, because i like to be able to walk to local facilities, but you get more space for your money in Chessington!

And of course you get the Vampire Ride!

I live in Ewell next door. Chessington is quite grim to look at, with a half-hourly train service into London which isn’t great. Not much green space, and a rather deprived shopping precinct.

We want to be approx 30 mans to london, 30 mins drive to gatwick.

My partner drives, i don't.
So i won"t always have access to a car.

We have around 400k for hovels 3 bed house.

Any recommendation s?

If you need to be in a location that’s 30 minutes from both of those you will want to look a bit more south east from chessington

£400k won't go very far in Guildford. Well, I guess it depends how close to the town centre you want to be. You will get more for your money around Farnborough and it has a regular train to Waterloo.

If you want to be 30 mins drive to Gatwick you need to be closer to the M23 along the M25. You won't get to Gatwick from Guildford in 30 mins reliably or at commuting times.

It all depends on what you are used to and what you want or need. Farnborough town centre has not a lot going on. You'd go to Woking/Guildford/Camberley if you needed to spend a day shopping. But if you need somewhere in the Surrey/Hants area that is in a mainline to London, relatively good value then it's ok. There's plenty of parks/woods/heath's if you want to walk the dog, run etc and as the area is relatively small you could walk to most of them living almost anywhere in the area.

Check out what the traffic was like pre-covid not what it's like now. Hardly anywhere is rammed now, same as nowhere has flights overhead every 5 minutes. Great time to offload previously compromised property to people who don't know the area.

This is what I was getting at above. To be 30 mins from Gatwick you need to be in the Croydon south corridor really. Its easy to underestimate travel times now too. Regardless of what lots of business gurus tell us life will get back to normal and the commute will happen again.

I was going to suggest the same, Redhill.

Surrounding options of Reigate, Godstone, Bletchingley all infinitely nicer than Chessington too (which is a bit grim IMO).

Three Bridges, Crawley. 32 mins to Victoria.

The problem with red hill, three bridges and Crawley is that it may in theory be 32 mins to Victoria but that is also on southern rail
