In terms of noise or pollution?
Is there a flight path over guilford or noise issues that i should be aware off?

Thanks

No

Do you commute by train into central London?

Guildford would IMO be an "easy win" in every respect over the likes of Windsor and Chessington. Other places to consider in that general area include Esher/Molesey/Walton on Thames with fast train services or Claygate/Cobham/Oxshott on the slower line or perhaps Leatherhead as well.

Have a look at the xplane app in the Windsor thread you created.

Guildford is far less affected by aircraft than Windsor. I lived there for 25 years and only 5 miles away now.

You might get a some Farnborough air traffic fairly low overhead but it won't be anything like living under Heathrow or Gatwick flightpaths.

Never mind the aircraft, you'd better like walking uphill if you live there.

Are we going to get a thread from you for every single combination of

(Town near airport) + (airport) = good???

Are you allergic to aeroplanes?

Don't underestimate how affected some people are by aircraft noise. In my previous role I've had intelligent people break down Infront of me, due to a perceived increase in noise from aircraft. For some it is a serious issue. For others, it literally is "what noise".

One thing on pollution. Once an aircraft is above 1,000ft, pollution is no longer detectable on the ground. Your issue is noise, not pollution.

If you Google Heathrow Noise and Gatwick Noise, both airports will have information on how their operations might affect an area.

One would assume none of these intelligent people are looking at moving to Guildford, Chessington or Windsor...

I'm allergic to peanuts but I'm not making threads like 'should I live next door to this peanut M & Ms factory?' biggrin

It doesn't actually matter where you live. It's how you're triggered, or not, by aircraft noise.

Gatwick no, but do get some interesting jets flying over from Farnborough. Not particularly noisy though.

It's a very sensible question OP. Some suckers who have bought on the Gatwick, Heathrow and Stansted flight paths are in for an awful shock when volume flights eventually resume. I believe Guildford has been historically unaffected.

She is looking at all the flight paths and anything under or close is ruled out...even if they are 3 miles up.

Guildford doesn’t get the big commercial planes but it does have a few business jets travelling usually diagonally over the town south east to north west heading for Heathrow I assume. They’re not particularly noisy but there are a few of them.

Guildford plane noise is not intrusive, it is quite a long way south of Heathrow. Even 15 miles closer I would say that plane noise only used to be intrusive when Concorde came over on a particular flight path and that doesn't happen anymore. But there are planes around and if your wife is hyper sensitive to them then anywhere in the area west / south west / south of London is likely to be an issue. I rarely notice a plane but they don't bother me in the slightest.

Probably not LHR at Guildford. Maybe Farnborough if a business jet.

I live in Staines. You can hear the planes but it goes into the background and you stop really noticing them. A few of my mates live in Guildford - I've not heard any of them complain about plane noise.

It's complete bks that planes are too loud in Guildford to have a conversation outside!

Here's a map (from Heathrow). Guildford doesn't even feature as an impacted area as they planes will be very high at that point.

On face value Walton / Weybridge is at the centre of converging flight paths but they are all above 5,000ft and noise is not an issue.
