When I did my motorbike intensive practical course in '97 I used a company based in that neck of woods, they used a lot of current and ex Army instructors who were doing it as a second job.

We got a big brick outhouse of a bloke turned up on the Saturday morning on a mint GSXR1110, great bike and a fantastic instructor, he was based at Pirbright barracks. On the Sunday he was unexpectedly replaced by an old chap on a shagged Honda CX500 that had done about a million miles.

"Where's yesterday's bloke?

"He binned his Suzuki on the Pirbright Bends going home from here last night so you've got me instead. I'll try to teach you how to stay on!" hehe

Driving to work this morning and there was a Renault Clio in the ditch . No idea how they did that as that part of the road is straight with no bends . Grange road , near school lane . The guy was sitting in his car on his phone so it must have just happened.

Not bad, drove into ditch and didn't even stop updating his Facebook status smile

Still drive these as I go biking near where those barracks are. I've been driving them years, well aware of what the conditions are. 30mph aint gonna change anything, the roads get extremely greasy when its wet and there are loads of blind bends. These sort of roads are best suited to something like an MX5

I'd be annoyed about the cameras but I'd be glad to get to travel at 40mph round there now.

Went this way today and the signs are up saying average speed cameras. The thing is I could not see the cameras. Had anyone seen them ?

They are putting up something like 400 new road signs, budget was £300k and they will need alot of cameras to cover the side roads and turnings. With the cost of road projects in the UK I can't see them having enough money for all the cameras. Lets hope they run out.

Indeed, the new signage is great. Perhaps some of the single vehicle accidents that have resulted in these cameras would have been avoided had they spent some money on the signs, sooner?

Like everything there will be ways to exploit them. I look forward to recceing the route once cameras are up.

With the amount of cloned plates in operation already in the UK this will only serve to increase the issue, and that represents far more of an issue for public safety.

To save on having dozens of cameras ,they won't cover all side turnings .
I live on a road with average cams and they just cover the main road .

If someone joins halfway between cams ,their speed will just be averaged when they go through the first [2] cams .

The roadworks are due to end this weekend and still no sign of any cameras being installed. I would have thought it would have been a pretty big job getting power to them unless they run off solar panels. Still hoping they dont get installed

Drove through the other day for the first time since all this and didn't spot any cameras, but I'm not brave enough to try a spirited drive/ride !

Interesting that all the chevrons etc. are on the outside of bends with pretty solid looking metal posts holding them up - seems contrary to road safety... although I suppose the trees nearby would get you if the sign didn't.

I very much doubt you can run cameras off solar panels in the UK, let along in the middle of a very wooded area

No camera's yesterday and most of the "works" gear has gone from the parking area in the 30mph zone. Unless they are using go-pro's mounted on trees, of course.

No cameras up yet. I have just enjoyed a very spirited blast around there this afternoon.

Must be out of money, still not a single piece of hardware erected to support the signage.

My money is on the signs simply being placed their to scaremonger. Surely with the cost of erecting cameras, the prosecution rate would be so low it would take years for them re coup the costs.

Mickelham bends actually has a hidden tree mounted camera I got caught by it last year! Not sure how often the turn it on but it got me fair & square & rewarded me with 3 points on my licence!
