Anyone else spotted the odd looking Cameras on stands being tested on the M3 near Bracknell ?.
They are low level and mounted on portable units.

Some research would indicate these might be the new sound measuring cameras to catch and fine people with very loud exhausts. Over 72db ?.

Can anyone confirm or have any info on what they are ?.

I've not noticed any cameras near there other than the average speed boxes, which I ensure I pass in the usual 72mph fashion.

There were some odd bits and bobs lying about at the roadside with cameras not in use signs. Won't be decibel cameras on a motorway though as the noise is too polluted to gain any meaningful readings.

Doesn't make any sense to put noise cameras on a motorway.

Are you sure it's not just surveyors' equipment? They use all sorts of optical electronickery on tripods these days.

I once worked on a construction project that had to monitor noise levels as part of the planning permission.

The traffic on the central London red route outside was louder.

I saw these yesterday and wondered the same. There are a couple of them in both directions between junction 2 and 4. One of them was definitely painted yellow which made he wonder whether its additional speed cameras to catch those who know where the regulat cameras are.

Impossible, judging by the fact my letterbox has not dropped a NIP.

Couple of posts online, including one in SP&L on here, that suggest they're additional ANPR cameras.

An update on these, and they are still there at present.

Some may have noticed they have 4 cameras each, pointing in all different directions.
I have been advised by a member of hampshire Police that these are testing a system which uses AI to determine if someone is holding a Mobile Phone.

He said it is very accurate and produces very clear images of any such person holding their phone.
Question is how does it determine a driver ?, as a passenger in the front could be holding a phone near their face.

Anyway, if it actually works thats great.
I see far too many people still using mobiles in their hands while driving. Particularly truck drivers. They dont seem to realise their large side mirrors give the game away very easily to other passing motorists.

If only they'd use the money to properly monitor the lanes on "Smart" motorways to spot broken down cars.

If only it could spot and eliminate MLM clogging up the M3.

The steering wheel about 2 feet from the persons face or phone will be a bit of a giveaway.

Agree with both suggestions but they are far too sensible and positive to be adopted. Restrictions and fines are far more attractive...

Hi All, these are the cameras that I believe everyone has been referring too, has there been any clarification as to what they are and if they are the new noise cameras ? Went past on the weekend and worried what the implications are if caught by a noise camera.

Also wondering if the are the new phone cameras ? Any help on this matter would be much appreciated. Have attached a few photos taken from google maps street view.

I have had it confirmed by an officer that they are the Mobile Phone detection cameras. Or at least a version of them on trial.
The camera system is 360 degrees and uses AI software to pick out a phone being held in someones hand.

Got to love the anti-theft / tamper alarm on those ones !.
